I leave very amateurish reviews of the anime I watch not as a critic, but just as my personal opinion and experience with the shows. I rate stuff based on how much I personally liked it. I write up a little bit about why I liked it and what it did well, but also the things I didn't like about it and where I felt it could've improved. I'm also pretty generous with the numbers I attach since I'd feel mean giving any show that held my attention lower than a 7.
Anyhow as for what anime I like, most of it falls under psychological thriller/horror. Basically, I just like stuff that's really tense and suspenseful that instills a sense of anxiety and dread in me. Scary stuff, but not scary in traditional sense, scary on a more anticipatory psychological level. I also really like stuff that feels like it has a lot of emotional weight and really hits hard in the feelings.
I also just like really visceral, brutal stuff as well. But it can't just be faceless violence, there's gotta be lead up and character building to make me care about those characters before they get chopped up or whatever.
Some examples of stuff I like are NGE, Elfen Lied, and Berserk.
