I'm a pretty new anime fan and I'd love to hear any recommendations you have! Totally open minded towards all genres and weirdnesses that come with our favorite cartoons. I'm also completely willing to listen and change my mind about anime I might not like. Rule #1 though - please please please be nice!
(My own soft spots for anime: dynamic usage of colors, diving into human psychology, fictional worlds that really feel lived in, unique-sounding scores, character-driven plotlines, bizarre fun goofiness and strong ensemble casts)
Score Explanation (because even though i often rate for enjoyment i'm still a bit elitist so here's usually where stuff falls):
9-10 - Fully engaging anime. It's not perfect, but profound/innovative/unique to the point that every anime fan should watch it. Is well paced, has a strong cast of interesting characters and plays to its strengths really well. Visually appealing and accompanied with a fantastic score. Extremely rare, and I'm probably biased towards it. 7-8 - An great show that is enjoyable from beginning to end and uses sound and visual design that complement the overall narrative and setting well. Has an engaging plot and well written characters and scenarios. It might stumble in some areas, but it was overall great, and I'd 100% recommend it. 5-6 - Anime with some absolutely fantastic qualities that were held back by super-mega flaws that made me kinda ambivalent about it. Or maybe just an decent one that was entertaining, but nothing special. 2-4 - It's probably not good. Poor choices run rampant throughout the show. Any show in this range was to some degree frustrating to watch. My rating from 2 to 4 honestly just depends on how dramatic I'm feeling. 1 - yikes
