I got baited. Hard.
With the sports anime craze that others and I were in from Haiykuu and Kuroko, I was pretty damn excited to learn of one that focused on parkour/free-running.
Then I had my hopes dashed as I watched on.
This is a shitty version of Free, plus I'm not the target audience for this show.
I could see the intended appeals of the show, but Free does it way better.
What I could not see was the free-running or parkour, which was the sport!
...
We had shots of shadows running in the background, or unimpressive vaults that I've done on the regular. Being someone into free-running, you'd think they would try and appeal to that audience.
I could understand the reason of the episode where they needed sponsors for their team, but that meant watching them play cross-dressing dress-up for it.
Go watch Free for the appeal, or watch Kuroko/Haiykuu for the sport.

I liked to call this one the "Reverse Gender Sports Anime"
I seriously mean that, the anime got some wrong tags.
The cast plays a sport, it may not be a real life sport but for their world, it is.
Instead of a guys team, it's a girl's team.
Instead of a girl manager, its a guy manager.
There is the fresh year who joins the club and turns into the ace in the hole.
Actually though, look at Haiykuu or Kuroko. They have all what was mentioned before, but the opposite gender.
...
And being a fan of those two recent sports animes, I had a good time watching this one.
Some may call out our MC is quite the dumb klutz, but she is about as clueless to the sport as she was. In short, she learns about the sport as much as we do from watching.
The sport is pretty neat, its a 1 versus 1 aerial battle for point control. One player tries to get from one area to another, while the other tries to stop them.
It's not such an intense watch as the more well known sports animes, but it certainly isn't what the tags say it is. Check it out for a more lighter and chill sport anime.

Alright past me, you were an ignorant fresh little shit when you first saw this. I remember you cried and loved this anime.
This is a good show if you turn off your brain and you don't look into things.
Just get lost in the nice visuals and music, have some neat explosions and some emotions running high.
If you do pay attention, you'll realize that there is so much holes in the plot that if Swiss Cheese was sentient, it'd be jealous and have an identity crisis because Guilty Crown has more holes than it could dream of.
Check this out, this author found 75 plot holes. 75!

It's a pretty cool world to look into as well as the power our MC has, which is to pull a weapon from other people which are reflective of themselves. (I wonder if I have a spear inside me.)
He is the hero needed...or more so taken advantage of...in this harsh world.
Again, if you straight up don't care for explanations and want to just have some visual entertainment then go ahead and watch. Otherwise, don't be surprised when you get angry at it.

I liked to call this one, the "Gamer's Chunnibyou."
Our main cast is a party of online gamers, the main game they played was an MMORPG. Basically a new avatar life in a virtual world, played by anyone around the world.
Oddly enough, our party not only live nearby each other, they go to school together. Another oddity is that we have a 1:5 guy to girl ratio in our cast. These are odd things because the likelihood of either of these is pretty damn unlikely, unheard of even.
Looking past that, the big issue to our cast is that they want to keep their Avatar Life separate
...
to their Real Life.
Actually all but one want this. This is where we get some silly wacky fun from the anime. Oh and ridiculous.
I have to point out, that this anime knew exactly what their target audience wanted. Be prepared for fan service in both character looks and actions the whole way through.
I am a big gamer, not so much in the MMORPG genre but back then I was. There were things I could relate to and laugh at because I knew what these characters did or were going through. Getting hacked can be one hell of an upset for a gamer.
Their school life had moments of things gamers could relate to, but from nowadays, gaming has become a lot more social and accepted through out our world. More than what our show would sometimes give off.
To be honest, it was the jealous itch I had from wanting more Chuunibyou in my life and this anime scratched a bit of it. It doesn't prove to be extraordinary or great, but its a stupid kind of fun watch. Gives me a sort of hope I can find more Chuuni like shows in the future.

You might taste a bit of salt with your eyes as you read this.
Charlotte had some cool things going for it, a world where humans were discovering the super powers they had within them or around them, a bit like Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
The characters were great to quarrel in my mind on why or what they did. Was that the right choice or was this really what should be done?
The animation and its colour was the biggest highlight for me. The comedic moments bring some fun but there are times where it might be jarring or too quick.
But then the plot decided to
...
make decision making absolutely ridiculous. Especially so in the last episode, oh dear.
An entire season could've been put into that ending, I can understand that budget or allotted is limited, but that does not mean that the ending should be resolved in such a way that is...just beyond disbelief.
The moral decision of removing someone's healing power.
The infiltration into a top security big boy's mansion.
The possibility of writing it all off and altering time.
Or even the possible decision of not doing something SO BLINKING OBVIOUS.
What a kick in the balls the last episode was.
I also learned that the guy behind the story is also known for pulling this extremely rushed crap, Angel Beats I think it was? I honestly didn't research what it was other than "Yes, the bastard did the thing again."

A couple of huge factors that increased my enjoyment of this anime;
I had a similar depressed state to the MC in piano and my mother, having me relate quite heavily.
Some of the music used has been played by me or friends and family.
One of the characters is exactly like one of my good friends in the past.
For me and a lot of people, music speaks words for us. It is a way for us tell the world what we are or what we are like. Its a personal sun for us to warm our more colder sides.
Getting depressed about our past or view on life,
...
it may seem so simple or silly to others, yet it is undeniably heavy and affects us more than we care to admit.
It's also why it is so important for people to not always be so cold or hateful towards each other, because the talents, ambitions, and even their own words, could push another to realize their possibilities.
In fact, it is the very involvement of others is why we do things, or is why we want things. To see our main cast be together and work for the things they want, both for themselves and each other, this show will pull on heart strings that make the viewer want to see them pull through.
Of course, roses have thorns. Like I had mentioned in Plastic Memories, one of our main cast has limited time. (This is not a spoiler, the show blares this future from the start. She will die and it tells you this over and over.) Knowing this, one may end up doing all that they want or were once afraid of.
I knew this problem was coming, and I itched at "How on earth could they deal with this? How will they come to understanding and acceptance? Will this break all that they had work for, for what was so hard to do could be taken down so easily!"
"No! No please! Keep trying! Keep going!" -Me, as I'm drowning from grief and sorrow.
Seriously, the last episodes had me bawling in uncontrolled tears. I had to go to buy ice cream to null my head in 'brain freeze' so I could deal with it.
The one thing that did bother me was that there was a ton of reused shots through out the entirety, where it felt got a bit bothersome to see such repetition.
The music, the passions and the emotions are what keep you entrapped. Watch it with your significant other and tissues to wipe those tears. I sure wish I had either of those. Pillow was soaked.

A fantasy world that clearly told its inhabitants that it wasn't going to hold your hand.
While it is wearying slow, its story telling fit best with how I was watching it; A few episodes at a time, before I go to sleep. I have to warn that binge watching this series may kill the vibes that this show may try to present with.
But because of how it clarifies how mortal and fragile our lives are, how can we adjust to when things get rough or wrong. This becomes especially apparent later on.
The biggest question that staggered me when watching the show was; "How would I
...
handle losing my best friends?" "Would I try and feign ignorance to it?" " Do I have even have the support to last through an event?"
The teenage banter can get stupid, kind of what we expect from anime, but when these teenagers face reality of what the world is like, and how it can take away what they hope, like, or even dream of, they need to buck up.
Or at least they need to sort out emotions, actions, and resolve. A human life lives a miserable harsh one, but the uphill battle to achieve greatness and happiness can be glorious and worth it.

Imagine a world where science has achieved sentient creations. Creations full of life, spirit, imagination, and will as us humans.
For the sake of science, these sentient creations were put through for the general public to use. However, there is a catch in these creations.
Their life time is limited. On a clock. Temporary.
Our main cast is a very important company that needs to deal with these limited sentient lives, because if they do not do their job, then these creations go haywire and become extremely dangerous.
But there are a couple of huge emotional impacts that prevent this job;
It is very hard to let go of someone,
...
be it fabricated life or a diseased life, it is really hard to face the fact that it all ends. I would be fighting down to the bone just so I could make sure my best friend could never be separated from me.
The grievance it takes on all parties to tell someone their time is up and treatment/certain action is needed. How heavy that weight is to give and receive it.
Lastly, how would one, who knows how limited their time is, spend it? Some may choose to isolate themselves to not give grief and mourning to close ones. Some may let it all out and do what ever they want. Some may finally choose what they would've never imagined themselves to do before.
What an amazing and emotional premise this show has, like the little bitch I am, I cried. Cried for the things our characters had to deal with, cried for the things they wished for, and cried for the time when they need to part ways.
The biggest issue in the back of my mind however is, who the hell gave the okay for these things to be for public use? Or even mass production? That is some serious moral walls they had to get through to get these things...no, now human-equivalents into the world.

*Viewership on dubbed*
I had gone into the anime with the mindset that there is gonna be some pretty cool action. Oh what a pleasant surprise I had when our MC had to escape his world.
Our MC's old world, he ruled it, he conquered it, till that day when the world fought back. He manages to escape, but not without sticking out like a sore thumb. Lacking the knowledge of the land, the locals, and the language, our MC struggles to get by.
The hilarity of our casts' adjustment to the world was a blast to watch. Their interactions with other humans and how they mentally process
...
how and what things are is one fun journey to witness.
The greatest shining parts is the characters. One in particular for me was the right hand man of our MC, who has amazing loyalty to a fault and the lines of perfection. The English voice actors had a great time and so did I.
I ended up getting McGronalds...uh I mean, McDonalds, twice because of this show. Man, I still have a stupid grin whenever I think of this show.
I direly recommend it to be watched dubbed. We all have fun here in McGronalds.

*This review takes consideration of the second season*
This anime is probably the biggest reason I should lose my Man card.
A disney-like romance story that I cant help but get so giddly happy and fuzzy when I see the main couple on screen.
It isn't so simple for them to get together, they live in a world where class and birth dictate where one is to be placed and respected.
Unfortunately for our couple, they are in different places of hierarchy. A Prince and a peasant so to say.
But our female lead isn't useless, while not physically strong, her knowledge and earnestness shows how strong she can
...
be to the world and people around her.
And our male lead isn't perfect. He needs to learn how to be with people, how to properly dictate his actions and make sure his leadership and power isn't misused.
How these two have growth in personality, goals, and their relationship. It's just so damn uplifting. Even when there is strife, they continue to push forward to make sure they can move on.
Our couple aren't the only enjoyable ones here, the others who are supporting or against our couple are also awesome to have on screen. This is especially so in the second season, where returning characters or new, a viewer can get so happy to see what they do.
The second season also gets the story and characters to be better and better.
The biggest salt in the wound for me, was that there IS NO DAMN WEDDING EPISODE. Frig, maybe I just want to see more of the couple embrace each other. No, that's exactly what I want.
It's a great watch for romance, while some may call it cheesy, I think its "LOOK AT THEM, THEY'RE SO GOOD TOGETHER. YES! SHOW THE WORLD YOUR STRENGTH AND WILL TOGETHER!"
