How I rank shows
It seems like a lot of users on MAL skew their ranks very high (like rating most shows 7~10). I try to space them out more to be accurate to my feelings - I really like MAL's granularity. But I also don't really go out of my way to watch shows I know I won't like, so yeah, the average in my list is above 5. For some shows, I sorta feel like I didn't "get it", and might change my opinion on a second watch
10: This show was perfect! :D
From the music, to the art style, animation, story, characters, SFX, and voice acting. In my book, each of those need to be at least 9/10 for a show to be 10/10.
9: I REAALLY like this anime. It probably could've been a 10, but it has one or two flaws (like Sound! Euphonium's unresolved yuri bait, or A Silent Voice's neglected side characters)
I'd happily rewatch a 9 or 10, and I think about them somewhat regularly. They've left a lasting impression.
8-7: I still definitely like these, but there were some things holding them back. Might be lacking polish, an interesting art style, or the music might just be "good". Perhaps I got confused / lost some times. Overall I thought these were enjoyable in many ways! Would still rewatch!
6-5: I sort of enjoyed these. May be formulaic, frequent boring / unneccessary re-cap scenes, questionable characters, plot holes. They're not necessarily bad shows, but they tend to drag on... sorta "whatever" shows. Would have to encourage me to rewatch.
4: Bad production quality, forgettable or plot-holed story, many meh characters, music isn't noteworthy - I didn't find this that entertaining.
3: Had to force myself to finish. Annoying characters, extreme plot holes, bad writing.
2-1: Painful to get through. The show was insulting to watch. Plot contrivances galore. Bad art / animation. I shouldn't have finished it, even for the meme
