It is a pity MAL is so erratically dedicated to anime purity. Little Foxspirit Matchmaker is thankfully included in the list despite being Chinese, but Avatar and RWBY are not due to their English origins, and the manga 'the Gamer' isn't included due to being Korean. This means my own list can only be partially complete, and that makes me sad :(

Haifuri continues to be surprisingly spectacular, striking all best notes of action, character development, and lighthearted humour on top of its intriguing cast. That it does all this with its totally un-captivating premise, while also having having literally (ok almost) all of the characters be female without any harem or ecchi elements, truly sets it a step above. My one complaint is that there are too many unmemorable side characters, but luckily the show seems aware of this problem and tries to work around it.

I sincerely hope to see some tasteful LGBT romance blooming as the show continues, as I think that could be really cute and would seal its progressive status, but I think that the show is likely avoiding that territory on purpose, and even by doing that it is setting itself apart in a good way. I applaud the makers of this show for daring to make something that reaches outside the target audience of so much of the rest of the industry, and doing it with skill, awareness, and flare.

Coming from to Chivalry of a Failed Knight, Asterisk War season 1 was utterly pathetic (though not a big let down since I had really low expectations to begin with). However, now that the lore and tension are established, season 2 is shaping up to be pretty enjoyable. I can't say I enjoyed the completely wacky and nonsensical magical-illusory-horse-thingamy, but episode 7 was pretty fun with its musical lady, and the special effects were special :)

Here's hoping Chivalry gets its own season 2 - I'm really looking forward to seeing where they go with Alice.

Watching Kemono no Souja Erin was really amazing. The story is so touching and so beautiful, but it's also really really really sad. Even at the points where the story is at its happiest, such as in the epilogue, I couldn't shake the feeling of deep seated grief: probably because of the parallels between that story and the story of my own life.

I had to move on to something much lighter that would bring my mood back up, so I went for the new episode of Flying Witch, which was maybe not the best pick, but it was close at hand. Flying Witch is consistently... it's really nice, but it's never seems to go all the way. It paints a happy picture, but doesn't give any of the wow factor that would make me feel it.

By contrast, Re: Zero has gotten better with each episode (except the second, screw that one), and has consistently managed to get me actually laughing out loud. Kabaneri is also getting better with each episode that goes by, and after watching episode 3 I'm now actually really excited for where the rest of that series will go. Even if Flying Witch is not as good as I'd first thought it would be, this season is proving to be really enjoyable.

Re: Zero episode 4 was soooo hilarious! OMG! Some of it has been pretty weak but now I have hope for the series again!

"Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress" definitely seems to have all the hype this season, but I can't say I found it all that amazing. It had nice visuals, but the setting and plot seemed really generic, and the characters had... no character. "And you thought there is never a girl online?" was interesting, especially with the great big Universal logo out front, but it left me with no idea of wherever the story might go from there, which is a bit of a problem for a pilot episode. By contrast, "Re:ZERO" was far and away the best of the pilots I've seen from this season, giving me everything I need to know plus sucking me in to the situation.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
