What got me into watching anime was Ergo Proxy for some reason. Although I've watched Inuyasha, Dragonball, Fullmetal Alchemist when I was young that didn't spark my interest to watch anime itself, maybe because I thought it was something Americanized, being dubbed and all..

I enjoy anime that is, as much as possible, rooted in reality if you will. There are exceptions since it's anime we're talking about.
My preference: comedy/drama/slice of life/romance.
