ryo-timo is an illustrator and animator. His real name is Ryousuke Sawa (澤良輔).

He was born May 6, 1979 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. ryo-timo started out as amateur GIF animator before turning professional. He initially failed an examination test for Gainax but was later scouted by Osamu Kobayashi for his television anime adaptation of the Beck manga. It was there he met noted animators Satoru Utsunomiya and Norio Matsumoto, the latter he continued mostly working with afterwards. His breakthrough as animator was Satelight's sci-fi series Noein: Mou Hitori no Kimi e, where he together with Matsumoto did some remarkable work, in particular the 12th episode was highly regarded by animation fans and other animators for the given display by the two.

ryo-timo's dedication for animation could be also seen in the Mainichi and TAF award winner film Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, where he did a minute long shot of the main character, Makoto, running, for which he actually went to the real world street that Makoto is running down in Tokyo, then filmed himself running it. He then studied this footage and incorporated his own feelings into the animation.

Not always a fan of his and several other webgenners' floaty, almost weightless-feeling animation, but I still appreciate the distinctive style and how it lends to being more raw and expressive, if at times sloppy. Yoru no Kuni is easily my favorite work from Ryo-timo. The design sense and directing in that ONA are excellent and have a memorable fairy tale-esque whimsy to them.

I really think it's funny that he missed GAINAX. Animator Yoshimichi Kameda also failed to get in there, GAINAX rejected him because he found his designs inappropriate. Unlike Kameda, Ryo was a web entertainer, so his style differed much from the style of an ordinary entertainer.

Both Ryo and Kameda are exceptional animators, with Ryo being the most exceptional, as his style of web animation attracted many more young people who used the same tools as he did for the industry. Several webgen animators emerged, making the industry win more talented people. Today GAINAX is a fucking studio, which can barely pay its own rent, and will soon close its doors.

I've always heard that the industry is heading for the hole, and these rumors were not for nothing: many studios in the quest to be the best turned out to be cowards, and keeping a very restricted work and business system. GAINAX lost all the talented animators it had for its cowardice. The fact that Ryo and Kameda had been tested and not done there, proves that GAINAX did not really want to feed young talents who needed only a little push.

Thankfully both animators found their way.

Since I have no idea about the Manga but based on the Anime(Yozakura Quartet) series His action scenes are so amazing that I can turn my blind eye to everything else(be it the designs, panty shots or whatever).
All the action scenes follows(respects) all the characters limits(power) which some others tend to disobey.

great at animating and choreographing action scenes but he's got an unhealthy obsession with panty shots
