Ami Shibata is a Japanese manga artist, writer and illustrator. She is known worldwide for the Papuwa manga series which spawned two anime adaptations in 1992 and 2003. She is also known for her another series Jibaku-kun, which has a certain popularity outside of Japan in some Latin American countries, especially in Brazil. Throughout her career, she has worked on a variety of projects, such as the manga Blue Dragon ST, where several manga artists collaborated together. Aside from the manga, she also worked in the beauty industry and dogs protection efforts.

In 2017, some Japanase media reported that Shibata had retired as a manga artist, and she herself said in an interview, "I'm going to become a beauty professional. I have no regrets about quitting manga." However, she has continued to publish manga ever since.

She started working as a painter in 2021 and that is becoming the focus of her activities.

Ami Shibata is close friends with Hikaru Midorikawa, Yuuji Naka and Naoko Takeuchi. She already had a party at her house with all of them, including Hideo Kojima and other game creators.
