This guy directed Grisaia, how the heck did he manage to make the flashbacks as cringy as possible???

This guy is a hack and he deserves to be called out for it. I get Grisaia for one thing was a major letdown and had its fair share of problems. Even with subsequent seasons, the initial problems never went away and only got worse overtime. But that is no excuse for also making Rewrite to be as shit as possible. I'm sorry but composing a series, regardless of whether you are used to the job or not, is serious business. It was quite clear with how the series went about that the director had no idea what he was doing with it and by the end I would argue that the B.S. ending we got is quite exemplary of how much this guy fucked it all up.

That being said, I don't want to say it is entirely this guy's fault. The problems exist beyond just the overall scene composition and directing. Like even the constant overuse of CG in scenes that are typically presented in traditional 2D animation means that it is horribly unappealing to see on aesthetics alone. And while I would love to give some credit where it is deserved, like the overall soundtrack particularly the second opening, it is quite clear that the script was horribly put together and that the storyboard loses focus halfway in the series, as evident in the sudden exposition dumps every other minute that the series could largely do without.

All in all, I feel for anyone who thought Rewrite could mean anything. With the way things stand, even the planned second season is all but likely to fail miserably assuming the same staff are assigned to work on it.

@sat2400 because 8-bit was only studio that actually accepted Rewrite every other studio deny doing Rewrite anime. In a interview Tensho said "the game is huge and hard to consolidate, and various parts are difficult to visualize, plus some issues for a studio, it was really hard to grant my wish." So he went to 8-bit since they work with Tensho before with Grisaia.

he is not responsible??? that's funny... Btw, why key gives rewrite to 8-shits? David Production is more reliable.

BlueKojiro | Oct 2, 8:18 AM
Important thing to note: Rewrite is the first anime he's done series composition on. Meaning: he was not responsible for the directing choices, which I thought were okay at best. What he did was decide what parts of the story goes where and how each episode plays out. He obviously does not have either talent or experience in series composition, which is why this was such a bad adaptation.

Rewrite was a mess

Kinmoza was pretty great especially the first and last episodes of s1 which were directed and storyboarded by Tensho himself

Also Katanagatari episode 7 is the best looking Katanagatari episode in my opinion, he did a very good job in bringing more beauty to the unique style of the series, since ep 7 has different linework than the usual katanagatari episodes.

But things changed when he worked on Grisaia and Rewrite, it felt like.....he didn't have enough resources?

like Grisaia had some nice shots but there were lots of derps in it, same with Rewrite, also it felt like he was pressured by the producers or sth in these two shows.

I'm pretty sure that this man could have made both Grisaia and Rewrite really great if he was given more time and better resources/helping staff.

Eh... Like I at least enjoyed some of his directing work besides Rewrite (Kiniro Mosaic is his best work imo though as a based SoL series, and he was in charge of one of the best episodes of Katanagatari series imo since he was the episode director, that episode is one of my favorites, though 11 and 12 are the best but they aren't his doing)

Have enjoyed him as a director for Rewrite (and before you ask I have not played the VN).
