Both deal with someone new starting tennis. Each has their strengths, in Baby Steps its his eyes and his attention to detail in Shanimuni GO its his endurance and raw talent. While the characters are almost opposite they both love tennis and there is also a female love interest who also loves tennis. 

Both (main characters) begin to play the sport because they were enchanted by a talented girl's playing style. They start out weak but show a lot of potential. After losing to a famous player, they decide to take the sport seriously. They partner up with the person they lost to and win many games in tournaments. They both vow to become stronger and challenge the world at a national level.  

Both Ide and Ryoma are geniuses. Although in Ide's case, he only recently started playing tennis. Together, with their teams, they join competitions. Prince of Tennis focuses only on tennis. Shanimuni GO, on the other hand, has a bit of romance.
