Both protagonists are a little arkward but lovable. They try to broaden their horizons by trying somithing new. The art is fine, the humor on point, the story is likewise heart-warming. All together it's a wholesome slice-of-life piece.

Both are series dealing with young people discovering self-confidence through their love of art. While Blue Period is about a high school student pursuing art, Urakata is about college students who are amateur set, costume, and prop designers for their school's film clubs. Both series talk about what is art, why we create it, and how we learn to be better versions of ourselves through it. Urakata is just a bit more comedic than Blue Period.

Being by the same mangaka, they have a similar art style and humor. The main character in both series suddenly finds themselves being pulled into a club full of eccentric people, and have to adjust to their new surroundings. They mostly are humor, with gradual romance. Moments can turn from heartwarming to silly in only a few panels, and then back again. Neither is just about the main couple(s), focus is put on each important character and their stories as well. I fully enjoy reading both of these, with their funny moments, hints at romance, and a unique art style I've come to love.
