Manga: K-On!
The main character of both mangas are slacker/neets. They have really no interest in joining anything. Also the respective music clubs (K-ON! = light band and HWO = wind orchestra) are to be closed due to lack of participants. Then the main character, with no musical skills whatsoever, is able to become the catalyst to get the clubs back up and running. Both mangas are slice-of-life, shounen and music genres.
