Both are about young adult characters. They both contain past/future mechanics as you unveil what happened in the past that led to the future - though NANA takes place more in the past even though the future is technically the present, while Piece more just has plenty of flashbacks. Nana O and Mizuho have similar haircuts and difficulties getting close with people, though in a different way. Mizuho's best friend also has more than just a physical resemblance to Hachi too.

TL;DR: Both are edgy shoujo manga with a sprinkle of romance. What starts the two manga is the disappearance/death of a character. In Partner, the missing person is the MC's sister while in Piece, it's the MC's classmate. The characters' pasts play a big role in Piece, but not much so in Partner. However, Piece's main character actively tries to solve the mystery behind the message her dead classmate left behind, while Partner is more of a sci-fi where an evil organization kidnaps people to become their guinea pigs. They both have romance, and in Piece it helps the characters develop and the mystery unfold. Meanwhile,  read more

These series have a main character tasked with finding out what happened to a mysterious classmate before an untimely accident. The stories switch between flashbacks and present-day to provide readers with clues as to what might have happened to the mysterious classmate. They deal with regret, isolation, hiding one's feelings, and tragedy in a mature way. Finally, these series present multi-faceted characters who show that no matter how happy, perfect, successful or beautiful a person may be, there's probably a more uncertain, pained, and imperfect individual hiding within them.

Same mangaka so the artwork and the atmosphere is quite similar. Both of these mangas use quite strong metaphors: in Piece it is the bus, that means our choices between different ways of life and in Sunadokei it is the sand chronicle meaning the continuous flow of time and the passing of life. The main characters are different: in Piece there is a quite strong female character supporting the weaker, fallible guy. In Sunadokei it is the opposite: Ann is really fragile and Daigo means her support. Both of these mangas are addictive (especially Sunadokei) and you cannot stop till the last page. Rather than shoujo, these two give you the feeling of "psychological josei" manga. Female protagonists learn to accept and overcome their faults, they are easily relatable. Past plays a big role and well thought-out backgrounds of the characters make you wonder what's gonna happen next. Within so many hidden messages, they show you how someone can manage to live happily in the merciless society.

The style are very similar. You can also see that both has a "mature" feel to it. Both heroine tries and solve a mystery that just seems to unravel more and more. Unrequited love? Sort of. If you like the sadness, but sometimes very sweet moments kind of manga, you should definitely read this
