Had to remember my password for this one.
In just three short chapters, Minami the Super Evolution has accomplished what no manga in the entire past year has managed to accomplish: it made me laugh out loud. I already adore this manga, from the love poured into its detailed double spread pages to the realism and humor that seems to burst naturally from its compelling dialogue and characters.
Minami's first chapter feels like a proper introduction. It refrains from saying too much too soon, opting not to spoil the entire premise with a lengthy title, and refraining from talking down to its readers with lengthy exposition.
...
It reads like a love child between Ruri Dragon and Dandadan, two series that I've absolutely fallen in love with this past year, and more of which is always welcome in my library.
It's always refreshingly satisfying to read a series that has genuine thought and effort poured into it, and from the very first panel, Minami the Super Evolution already beats out 90% of the trashsekai that I've ever read. It makes great use of the extra pages that Ultra Jump provides, setting up little Chekhov's guns to use as punchlines later in the chapter.
Each side character that has been introduced so far is simply brimming with potential, and Minami herself is just painfully relatable, despite being the titular girl with super powers. Because of course, the first thing that a high school girl thinks about when she develops supernatural abilities, is using them to make money so she can go on a trip to NYC. Duh.
As the Gen-Z'ers might say, don't sleep on this shit, it is gas.
