Wow, what a beautiful story. From the plot, characters, world-building, to its art— this was such a gem. The Foam of the Sea is a fantasy story that incorporates elements from the classic Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, creating a refreshing atmosphere with hints of nostalgic familiarity (which really sets that fantasy tone). What I love the most about this manhwa is the characters— everyone feels dynamic, even those who are technically "cannon fodder". I kid you not, the scene that

made me burst into tears was the one about the Southerners' immense bond. Everyone may not share the same number of panels but they feel so authentic, it's hard not to empathize with them.
The story is a romance but surprisingly doesn't have much romantic panels, but the chemistry between the FL and ML is so cute! I love how natural the banter felt, and the pacing was natural. The plot leans quarterly into the politics within the fantasy world it's set in, but even if you came for the romance, it didn't feel dragging or tedious at all. The author masterfully blended the romance between the characters and the cruelty of the world politics they were navigating. When I think about it for too long, the circumstances they were under honestly made my heart break for all of them. I think the line, "The kids will be alright," is the perfect way to describe it without spoiling it too much.
I'll end this review with one of my favorite quotes from the manhwa:
"𝓑𝓾𝓽 𝓳𝓾𝓼𝓽 𝓫𝓮𝓬𝓪𝓾𝓼𝓮 𝔀𝓮 𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓼𝓪𝓶𝓮 𝓹𝓪𝓲𝓷... 𝓭𝓸𝓮𝓼𝓷'𝓽 𝓶𝓮𝓪𝓷 𝔀𝓮 𝓬𝓪𝓷 𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓽𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻𝔂𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓪𝓫𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝓮𝓪𝓬𝓱 𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻."
