Never in my life have I seen such an annoying, spineless, passive, self-destructive, push-over of a main character.
This story is incredibly frustrating and a struggle to read when our MC continues to make the worst possible decisions at every turn.
Brief synopsis: After Siyeon discovers that her entire life is a lie, including the fact that her parents are not really her parents, a near death experience magically sends her 10 years into the past. Just like any other reincarnation-esque manhwa, Siyeon sets out to not only fix the mistakes of her original life, but go after the guy who was really meant for her the
...
entire time.
But no story is without conflict, and the moment Siyeon encounters her first substantial roadblock, she sadly makes similar mistakes that she made in the past, once again compromising her future. However, poor decisions don't make for a bad story on its own, what makes this particular story so frustrating is our MC.
Instead of spending her new life getting what she deserves, Siyeon consistently chooses to shoot herself in the foot, and sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of the people around her. The people, mind you, who treat her like actual human garbage. And when it comes to finding true love and being happy herself, she throws it all away to protect those same people. All the while, throwing herself a giant pity party and sobbing as though the situation was out of her control when all she needed to do was speak up for herself for once in her life.
When you take a step back and look at the story as a whole, not a single thing has changed for Siyeon in her new life, except for the fact that she wrote a novel and earned a lot of money. And what did she do with that money, you might ask? Well, she gave it right back to the fake parents that treated her like the dirt on the bottom of their shoes. Gotcha, that makes perfect sense! At the same time, her actual parents are going bankrupt and could really use that money. Does Siyeon give it to them? No! Why? Because helping her real parents would probably make her happy, and she doesn't deserve that. She's gotta be the victim, silly!
I assume the author is trying to paint Siyeon as the selfless type with a big heart, but all the readers see is a girl with no spine, no dignity, no brain, and no self-respect. She literally got a second chance at life and absolutely wastes it. Worst of all, she is incredibly cruel to the only person who was on her side in both lives in order to protect the people who treated her like trash.
If Siyeon somehow manages to get a happy ending, it will be because of the incompetence of the people around her and not by her own merit. At this point, I hope the story incorporates a second time loop and gives Siyeon the chance to start from scratch again because home girl has already screwed the whole thing up.
At the time of writing this, only 28 chapters are available to read. Chapter 28, in particular, is amongst the worst pieces of media I have ever consumed and is the reason a lot of people are choosing to drop this story.
I will continue to check back in to see what becomes of Siyeon, but at this point, I'm starting to think that love really doesn't exist.
