I am done now. Why are all these author not able to come up with a good shoujo when the setting is of a magic academy with nobles present like in this one? I kid you not, that whenever this type of setting comes along in a manga, my expectations go below even the ninth circle of hell. I have yet to read a similar manga which made the ground shift off of my feet and made me go "This is good". Looks like I dislike these type of stories.
First of all and god, the characters are trash. They are the most generic looking characters
...
you can find on any other manga with the word "saint" or "villain" in its title. And thats the sole reason which makes them so annoying to watch because you can literally predict how they are gonna act. And wait a minute, we did not even talk about the title itself, how it is totally misleading. "If the villainess and villain met and fall in love" except the main characters, which the title refers to as the villains, are the individuals with the purest heart, are the most clean slated in the entire manga. And now onto how the characters were very generic, the female lead is the damsel in distress, the unfortunate girl, who contracted to a very weak spirit...... uh, weak spirit? The premise shows us how she is the ugly duckling of her family, how she had to suffer for her entire childhood cause of this. And now the manga hints towards her being contracted to a mythical level spirit, if not straight out to god itself. The male lead, and oof, I have a whole scripture down in my mind on how annoying he is. First, oh his stone cold gaze which is ever so annoying. Just the panel of him with the light effects, three quarter profile of his face and half closed eyes is enough to make any normal man just seethe with cringe. And he talks in a very rude and brash nature which I would have probably liked if he was not written in a way to be the most cocunut you can be, hard on the outside and soft on the inside. Its like a tsundere but annoying. The villain which is the prince and the "saintess" by his side which is the villainess, or the prince's lackey as I like to call, are both equally cliched. The lacky is annoying as fuck, and here the major fault lies to the author and not her individual traits as to how hard the author goes to show her as a pathetic character. Although the main villain, the prince, is looking much more interesting than all of the characters combined, despite him being the comically bad guy driven by jealousy. His actions looks like he has something else going on his mind, but maybe I am looking too much into it for him to be just another evil villain trying to get back on our precious female lead. The side characters are actually so laughable, the usual villains to friends switch up, constantly chattering on how great the female lead is for forgiving them, just buzzing around her constantly. It actually cracked me up when they were battling on who garners more affection from the female lead. Just stop, its pathetically funny. Might as well have replaced them with cats or dogs.
Now the story and probably another big paragraph coming up. Now the story is pretty black and white in its structure. The female lead faction makes up for the white section of the manga, they are the right one, they are the forgivers, oh how kind. And then the prince faction makes up for the villains, they are the wrong one, they are the oppressors, oh how evil they are. Actually I just gave a general rundown for the entirety of mangas similar to this one. And now coming for the romance aspect and it is equally common as the previous one. Oh our female lead is in a pinch, worry not for our male lead will come in his shining armor, galloping on a horse to save the day. Another way of saying bad story writing with forced progression. While the story is constantly cliched and cringey all along, there are certain moments where the story just drills an overdose of cringe into your body. I had to put down my phone and I facepalmed so hard from the second hand embarrassment, all that in the library which I was reading it in. Its not like the story is poorly written, it has decently connected various cliches into a story for what I have to say, but it doesn't matter much when such heavy use of same copy paste events is there.
After all that, maybe I can spare a few words of praise for its art. The character design were clean if I have to say, and as generic as they were, atleast they were drawn well, which made them somewhat interesting to watch visually. The artstyle as common it is for this setting, was somewhat well drawn too, better than things I have read.
Now that I am reareading my review I actually went on a long rant but this must be a reflection to how infuriating it was to read, cause it just compiled a lot of things which I find annoying into a single place. You may have a different experience reading this but this one's mine.
