When I saw that the author of this manga was Tsubasa Yamaguchi, the brain behind Blue Period, I didn't expect it to be this....... different and........ confusing.
Set in a fantastical yet close to real world setting, with vampires, or "blood suckers" crawling around, the manga was shockingly mediocre. It didn't lay out a compelling story at all but rather a minimal to no story is what this manga has. It didn't set out to achieve something important or rather anything for that fact and nor did it achieve.
The characters were bland at best. May be due to the fact it was such a small manga
...
with such limited space to squeeze in any character development? Or was it the theme the author tapped into where the male lead has to always throw around cringey-one liners, and have to have a gap as small as possible between his eye lids? Where the female lead always have to be a submissive schlob, only there to have her face flushed with red cheeks due to the advances of the male lead?
The art was good, which is not a fact foreign for this genre, because usually or at least for the mangas I have read, most of them have good art. But still I would like to push this point forward because the art is much good, at least when compared side-by-side with some staples and also cause it is probably the only redeeming feature of this manga.
About the story, it was pretty mediocre. I am not going to say it was generic because I have not read much stories with this plot point, or even if I have, I am not remembering it. But still it would have ended up with a score of 5-6 in my books if not for the ending. The ending is pretty basic but that doesn't make it any less confusing. On the contrary we are left on a hanging note with a hint which may paint an ending from a broader perspective, but isn't able to answer any of the questions risen by it.
At the end, I guess the author drew this manga as a way to warm up his hand and to come out of a slump in order to publish a new chapter for Blue Period.
