Both stories revolve around an underutilized member of the hero party who is eventually kicked out, but both find success outside of the hero party.

Kouryakubon seems to be heavily inspired by Magi not only in terms of story but also in regards to art. After the starting arc, there are middle Eastern themes all over the story with the main character being a very strong sorcerer on similar levels of a Magi. The main differences though would be that this is also a spin-off of the typical fantasy trope of "defeat the demon lord" where the MC is kicked from the hero party but succeeds on his own nonetheless. The two themes together make the story semi-interesting.
