I didn't think that any position would provoke me to write a review here, but oh well. Hello world, here we are.
*It contains spoilers!
English is not my first language, so even if I really try, I might make some grammatical errors, and I'm sorry for them.*
So I've been reading a massive amount of yaoi for a couple of years now and I looove BL games. If you do too, you probably noticed that Japanese people weirdly love this "ambiguous consent" trope, so I quite got used to dubcon in manga. Of course, rape is a horrible experience.I'm not saying that it's something acceptable or forgivable.
...
Writers should always treat this topic with proper care and delicacy. But still, we are talking about fictional stories here. It's not a deal-breaker for me, since I've read a lot of good titles that include dubcon. I also can feel the character's grief and I'm willing to turn a blind eye if they regret their actions, as long as the protagonist forgives their "partner". But here. Oh boy. I was pretty disgusted.
We have 3 non-consensual sexual acts during 6 chapters (excluding extras) and quite a disturbing scene in chapter 1. What should you do when you finally see your childhood friend after a couple of years of parting? Kiss their neck erotically, suggest locking them up, grab their crotch and ask why they are hard. This scene is absolutely ridiculous and disturbing since the uke (sorry forgot their names haha oopsie) didn't show any signs of romantic interest. No confession, no suggestive touch, literally nothing. You shouldn't grab people's crotch without their consent, especially if you are not romantically involved with them. This scene is illogical, unrealistic and gross.
Seme is a misunderstanding. There wasn't a second when I cheered for him to make this relationship work. He's toxic and doesn't give a single fuck about uke's feelings. After the rape, he shut himself in his room, played the victim (hello??????!?!!?!?!?!?!?) and made the uke blame himself for the whole situation:)))) yeah right ty bye. you're officially the worst human being.
Uke is obviously misfortunate, however, that doesn't make him a likeable character. He's stupidly stubborn, can't talk with seme about literally anything and makes a fool out of himself. Such a frustrating character with no redeeming qualities.
The biggest problem I have with this title is that it could honestly be such a nice little wholesome position. Quite a cliche, falling for a childhood friend, but that's absolutely okay! I love cliches. I love this trope. I would still read that. It would be unharmful. Even if the author decided to include disturbing, possessive seme that visibly has some kind of problems - that would be okay too! There are hundreds of amazing books with similar characters. But here it's not shown as toxic. The author doesn't emphasize that it's bad since "poor uke and poor seme are so in love and everything is just a misunderstanding". They have their happy ending and everything is forgotten. Well, no. That's not how it should look like! The seme is STILL manipulative and toxic. Nothing changed. This is NOT okay. That's so harmful. People like this need therapy if they want to create a relationship.
As I said, it's only fiction. Some people may not see a problem with this one, but it's an absolute no-no for me. It grossed me out how unharmful seme's actions seemed at the end. I can withstand a lot, but this title is just disgusting.
