Both series involve music and trying to do well while competing to do the best you can while learning to embrace and recognize how you feel towards your music.

Both are romantic harem type of story, both have plenty of bishounen, even though the era is different but the sense of it is quiet similiar.

The plots of these manga are quite different, but I can name some similarities. In both manga, the girl is the protagonist, surrounded by handsome/cute/pretty boys at a prestigious school. There are two types of students. One class would wear a white uniform (in VK, its the night class, in LCO its the music department), and the other class would wear a grey/black uniform (in VK its the day class, in LCO, its the general studies). Both are shoujo fiction (VK is vampires and LCO has fairies).

Both series are about music. The main leads, Aristide and Kahoko are new to music at the beginning of their respective series and they start out learning violins as amateurs, only to find out that they possess a unique talent to playing instruments. There are also a lot of hot guys surrounding both main leads.

Both are about a beautiful girl that plays the violin.

A heroine who is entirely new to the idea of playing an instrument joins a group of talented rising musicians in a selective competition she has no initial desire to be in. The same heroine in a group of unique heroes idea.

Both stories center around a music prodigy. La Corda focuses on a violinist, where as Piano no Mori focuses on a pianist. People are drawn to the prodigies not because of their knack for copying any piece they've heard, but because their love for music can be heard through their unique style of interpretation. The stories follow the young prodigies as they evolve and captivate their audiences.
