As a whole, the series is very much akin to Naruto Shippuden than a full-on sequel, feeling very much like it's just the same thing, but fifteen years later and with new foes. It starts off pretty distinct, having Zatch dead and the mamodo unable to cast spells...but a scant few chapters in, it "remedies" that and turns the series into more of the original, but with less of what made that original series so good. Most of the presently-available 26 chapters are about seeing prominent characters from the original series again, with it only starting to change to more than just a game of

catching up with characters at the end of 25. Additionally, the new foes don't seem particularly powerful, due to the original series characters being very battle-hardened and capable. Compared to Bargo's first appearance in the original (who, keep in mind, arrived in the single digit chapters), nothing here seems half as intimidating.
While it's better than most nostalgia-centric sequels to older fiction that are all the rage right now, it's not a particularly good one, either. If you want something on the level of the original, you can do much better. However, if you absolutely must have more Zatch, you can certainly do much worse, too.
