Episode 67

Just one sleep away to the start of the festival, and on the night before the festival, Hakuro shows his skills as a sushi chef. More guests pile in and the elf princess has the power to produce mental blocks, so Rimuru better be careful in what he says. Then there's Frey, and Rimuru should have known better than to mention poultry in front of this harpy's face. And then Milim and the other Demon Lords of the Octogram arrive. So with that, the gang's all here and at long last, it's time to start the festival.

They got their money's worth out of the "scary women smiling with closed eyes" trope in this episode. Seemed like Chloe was the only one of his students not surprised that he was the Demon Lord of Tempest.

Seems Milim was the only other Demon Lord attending

I can't be impressed by this or that person who shows up when Milim's best pals with Rimuru. Some country has been around for two thousand years? Yawn. Isn't Milim older than that?

So that's why they looked so shocked. There's so many characters and story lines in this show I lost track of a lot of it. I have no clue who that little blonde is they showed a couple times like she's important.

She was introduced in the first half of this season I think. She last the daughter of the Mob guy who was working with the church to eliminate Hinata or Rimuru...but apparently she's actually the mastermind

@HOOfan_1 Yeah, she's a danger loli and it was heavily implied she was some sort of mastermind.

She's no one's daughter though. The old evil dude she is with is her grandfather but I think that was pretty obvious.

Odd that Ramaris didn't show up. People seem to think she's 'safer' than the other current demon lords.

@runec

Yeah her "grandfather was portrayed as the guy behind the whole 7 holy guys (with their faces covered) thing to take out Hinata and all that but yeah heavily implied it's really her (with him as the front man) and she is not as she appeared just an innocent child. (which is why she said no wasabi like Rimuru implied earlier teasing Hinata eating sushi with was wasabi is an "adult" thing and she doesn't want to blow her cover)

This whole thing has been rather boring the author has gone through all this effort to bring all the major players together in one spot and they're all just hiding there schemes and hostilities. Oooh look I have a dozen sticks of dynamite together with a lighter right next to the fuses, isn't it dangerous? Something bad will happen if I just flick the lighter <flick> <flick> ahh just kidding I'm not going to do anything. Everyone will leave so we can have more meetings about how we cleaned up all the garbage made during the festival. 9_9

It's also hinting the girl is a reincarnated/transferee herself since she used the term sabi-nuki.

As opposed to, "None of that mysterious spicy green stuff please, I don't like spicy things."

That or she has amazing hearing and was paying attention to the pointless conversation going on about sushi.

Episode 68

And now, it's time to get this show on the road after a lot of planning and prep work. It begins with a concert, and then everybody goes around doing various things from food stalls to lectures and presentations. Hinata dolls up going to show that she is no longer that menacing person she once was. So after a successful opening day, it's onto the second day and the main event of the festival, the martial arts tournament.

Every time they show Hinata it takes me a second to figure out who she is. She looks too much like the dragon newt girl, who's doing the announcing for the fights, so I always think it's her at first.

That musical part was awful.

Good lord more meetings. And yeah what a non-problem, a million ways they could figure it out. Also how in the hell could those merchants know they had all their wealth in non-fungible assets?
And also that obviously wasn't the real Shion, I don't know what I found less believable knowing what we do about her character up until now, that she could learn to play an instrument, figure out and explain the plot of the merchants to Rimuru before he could or that she actually wore a dress that was properly fitted to her massive melons.

@Xuhybrid You'd think with how long the author had to write his character before he got released that he wouldn't have come out as awful as he did.

A lot of the characters have been reduced to one note jokes at this point.

@Xuhybrid We're being picky but in a way, most series *do* have to include a token 'one of everything.'

Editors push for it and merchandisers like it to expand the audience.

Veldora's main contribution is as a tired joke, "This is the strongest thing in the universe?" and also he's the main reminder that this is an isekai -- because he keeps reading Shonen Jump and other magazines.

Don't forget Ramiris and Yuuki.

I also saw a Monthly Dragon Age one in there.
It was really surprising at how many references they had in there that WEREN'T censored in some way.

@MenchiK1 I don't think they thought that far ahead so much as it just ended up that way. Veldora's freedom was a surprise. Rimuru didn't expect to finish analyzing the seal on Veldora so soon.

Didn't they just make him a dungeon battery or something?

I think the magicules are mainly from the history of Veldora being there having his power siphoned by the seal, and all the monster population. He was repressing himself.

They let him go loose in the dungeon basement because it would spontaneously spawn new dungeon monsters (for some reason).

Magicules exist naturally.
Veldora trashed the Vampire Kingdom, then went and lived in the Jura forest.
Eastern Empire went there to expand their territory and got thrashed by Veldora causing them to enlist a Hero to slay him.
But as you know, said Hero just sealed him inside the cave.
Probably because his presence and overwhelming aura keeps most monsters meek.
Him being sealed inside the Jura dungeon was a punishment because of his intense restlessness causes him to go on rampages because of boredom.

And monsters naturally existed in the dungeon.
Which is why when Rimiru cleaned out the place they could safely use it to grow herbs.

Episode 69

And now, it's time for the main event of the festival, the fighting tournament with a seat in the Tempest elite four awaiting the champion. First up it's a battle between the rivals Bovix and Equix, and the bull demon overpowers the horse to send Bovix to the next round. Then Masayuki's luck continues as his opponent forfeits. Then it's Gobta against Gaiye and while that appears to be a mismatch, Gobta has a secret weapon in that he can summon Ranga for the win. Then it's Geld against the warrior known only as Lion Mask, and Lion Mask dominates. In the second round, Masayuki is carried by his got-tier luck again as Bovix decides to forfeit. Then it's Gobta against Lion Mask, and thanks to Gobta aiming for the mask while Lion Mask can't afford to let his identity be revealed that he forfeits. I had a feeling there would be a number of crazy outcomes seeing that three of the six matches ended in forfeits that sets up the final battle between Masayuki and Gobta, and I don't think Gobta will throw in the towel before the fight this time around.

Another monumentally average episode. This show soars to new heights not seen since the demi-god of those-who-do-just-enough-to-get-by, Mediocritis, laid down to take a nap after climbing the first fifty feet of mount olympus. A truly inspiring feat.

It's surprising how many people I've seen--specifically, in youtube comments--saying that the infinite meetings story arc only just started this season. How they sat through six straight episodes of meetings last season without noticing it is beyond me.

Starting out with (and ending with) a meeting, of course 9_9. What a crappy tournament, 3 fights people just gave up, what a joke. They should have made it a rule they had to fight no surrendering. The hero joke that he never fights is already lame. It's looking like Gobta gets his new fishing pole next week because there is no way this guy is fighting.
The only thing I got out of the tournament is that if Souka's shorts are really just normal mesh we all just got quite a view.

And now, Rimuru enters into an alliance with Elmesia to bring Sarion on-board with Tempest. Then the tournament concludes with Masayuki's luck about to get him the crown as Gobta merged with Ranga to unleash a devastating attack on Masayuki. But Gobta hasn't mastered the attack and knocks himself out resulting in what appeared to be a double KO, but Masayuki got up and was about to win, but he admits defeat as he knew that Gobta is way better than him. Afterwards, Rimuru tells Masayuki that he, too, was originally from Japan, albeit reincarnated as opposed to summoned, and the two become friends. Pretty ridiculous end to a ridiculous tournament, but in the end Masayuki is finally seeing things the way he wants to.

Episode 71

With the tournament in the rear view mirror, it's onto the dungeon raid as the parties have gathered, and the products that work only inside the labyrinth are advertised. It turns out that Ramiris had modified the dungeon designs behind Rimuru's back as she added a number of things like pitfalls that serve as shortcuts to lower floors. Eren's team as pretty cautious in approaching the dungeon, all while Team Lightning kept on getting wiped out and sent back to the start. As for Team Lightspeed, they managed to get a rare item from the 10th floor before the time limit. And then Gaiye, the solo adventurer who made quite the scene, made it to the boss room, but with the boss already defeated and won't respawn in time that he takes out his anger against the dryad assigned to watch him, which doesn't end well for him. So with that, the fetival comes to an end after some great festivities and some major league cleanup work lies ahead. Once again, the dungeon raid was pretty ridiculous, and Ramiris is a big reason for it adding pitfalls on early floors. One more episode left to go in this season.

Episode 72 (Season 3 Finale)

The festival was a success, but now Rimuru is dealing with the cleanup, and that includes dealing with Muese who was sent by Rozzo in order to collect a debt in dwarven golden coins. Rimuru pays that, and then sends him away as Rimuru has a policy of only dealing with those he can trust, and Muese ain't one of them, especially since he was sent by the guy who was the mastermind in the previous arc. Rimuru is establishing his own economy, and the festival was all about establishing alliances and trading partners. Afterwards, all the guests return hom, and then a month later comes a letter from the Council of the West. Pretty much, this episode tied up loose ends, as well as bring Rozzo and the church back into focus to set up the next season. So with that, season 4 has been announced, along with a second movie.

Final Thoughts

This season is far more chill than the first two as while the first half was about another conflict that was quickly resolved in dramatic fashion, the second half was all about the festival that I felt dragged and took much longer than it should have. Nevertheless, it still does the things that make this show great, and for this season it's mostly centered around negotiations and meetings, rather than conflicts and combat, but once again the pacing felt like it was stretch out when it could have moved quicker. So pretty much, while the characters, story concept, and storytelling remains strong, the story writing takes a step back this season due to the slow pacing and with there being more negotiation talks than in the previous seasons.

Well...some stuff happened in about 8 of the 24 episodes. Still, compared to a lot of crap out there, it was still good. I am not sure if I would rate it as highly if the first season and first part of the second season weren't so much better.

In the end, I will rate this the same as the second half of Season 2....7/10
