Seme/Uke stereotypes

Hello!

I'm new here, and I couldn't find a discussion about this anywhere, so thought I might as well start one ^^
So yeah, I assume I don't need to explain the Uke/Seme stereotypes here. I'm of the pretty unpopular opinion that they are completely repulsive, since very few real life same-sexl relationships work that way. It especially irks me when the two people in question are strong, dominant characters, and one of them gets reduced to a sobbing uke in bed.

So what are your opinions on this topic?

I don't mind it if it is done with integrity instead of just trying to fill a certain character archetype. And while it may seem like very few real life same-sex relationships work that way to you... that is speculation. Unless we all know the inner workings of everyone's sex life then it isn't really possible to paint such a broad stroke. What matters is having a diverse representation of all kinds of gay people and all kinds of sexual dynamics. And having those representations done in an honest and truthful way.

I think the problem with the uke/seme system is that it is too often used, and too often used with the same character archetypes. Not the actual bottom/top non-versatile component of it. But that issue (for me) is something I dislike about a lot of anime today... too formulaic with the characters. We have the tsunderes, the quiet girls, the super cute moe person, etc. So to me it is no surprise that this is also reflected in yaoi.
