No, because the difference between your weight and the extra carriage is far smaller than the difference between the truck and the bird. Thus, you exert far less normal power than the truck.

that doesn't matter, physics just DOESN'T work that way...
First of all, the according to the solution, the truck's weight before crossing the bridge is such that the addition of ANY weight, no matter how small in any form will cause the bridge to collapse. I was using a person carrying weight as an exaggerated extrapolation of your argument

Secondly, normal forces simply cannot 'cancel' out weight. When the bird lands on the truck, it exerts a downwards force on the truck due to its weight. The truck exerts the normal force on the bird upwards. Notice that since the normal force acts on the bird, it does not magically make the truck any lighter. The truck itself exerts a net downward force on the bridge equal to its weight and the bird's weight, which is greater than the force the truck alone would have exerted.

Please trust me on this, if not, then look it up or something XD

all it says is that upwards acceleration can be used to recreate freefall condition. Where in the problem is there any vertical acceleration?

okay, new riddle tiem. :D

I live on the fourteenth floor of my apartment building, so I take the elevator to go up and down as I come and go. When I leave my apartment, I take the elevator all the way down. When I go back up, it works a little differently. If it's raining outside or if I'm not alone in the elevator, I go up to the fourteenth floor. If, however, neither one of these conditions are met, I only go up to the tenth floor, and take the stairs the rest of the way.

Why don't I go all the way up?

I heard a variation of this one....so i don't really know if this is the answer...

On a side note, I can't believe I randomly saw your answer fifty four seconds after you posted it. Thats... creepy. :P

okay, I'll do one. It's a who-dun-it

a man is found dead in bed with a pair of scissors nearby. There are no puncture wounds or cut marks on the man's body. How did he die?

you may ask yes or no questions in order to narrow down the possibilities

Was something cut off from his body, like hair?

And do we have to guess who killed him or how did he die?
And it wasn't a suicide, was it?

Am I correct?

Anyway...

Did the scissors play an indirect or direct part in the process of killing him?
Is the question trick questiony or logical?

Ah well, I like this kind of riddles, but it's a bit hard to solve them over the internet.
I'm guessing that we have to ask a lot of questions, so it's not so easy to guess it like this ;D

So.... maybe a hint then ;)?

A man is found dead in bed with a pair of scissors nearby. There are no wounds on the man's body. The man didn't have any health problems. Nothing was cut off his body and it wasn't suicide. The scissors were used by a person to cut something that made the man die, but not a rope tied to an item. The bed is the key. How did he die?

This should make it easier.

Good recapitulation :D

Ok so he didn't die from some gas, he wasn't poisoned, and he wasn't cut/pierced by scissors, but something else was cut.
(that's just me thinking out loud XD)

Maybe he was suffocated somehow?
It's easier to think of the way how he died, and then connect it to the scissors, cause it is very confusing to think only about scissors....and the bed....

Also, was the bed normal, or maybe damaged somehow?
And is the way that he was lying somehow relevant or no?

We're getting closer to the answer XD
YES he was suffocated
NO the bed is not a 'normal bed'
YES the bed was damaged
the way he is lying is irrelevant

Here goes nothing. The man died by suffocation due to the water bed being punctured (or cut open) by the scissors. causing him to suffocate on ether the water or the bed.( maybe the bed shifted some how as the water came out suffocating him)
