Haven't read too many mangas, but GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) is definitely awe-inspiring and still remains as my all-favourite manga.

I second GTO It is awe-inspiring and teaches you life lessons?(Sorta) but it is a pretty sick manga and anime.

Almost anything by Osamu Tezuka, Black Jack, Buddha, and Phoenix in particular. He revolutionized the way manga are made and stories told through them and almost 25 years after his death he still hasn't been topped, that's pretty awe-inspiring if you ask me.

Seconding Osamu Tezuka. I'm particularly fond of MW and Ode to Kirihito, myself.

Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys and Monster

and I recently came across Me and the Devil Blues, which is just amazing.
