Speaking of Gackt but not Asian Dramas (although he's acted in one so I'm still on topic), apparently Gackt's new single, Ghost, will be used in the American drama series, Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles. I watch that show!

From *cough* Perez Hilton:

-------

Tweenies all over are outraged over news of a Filipino version of Twilight for television set to begin production soon.

Actors Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao will be portraying Edward and Isabella, respectively, in the ABS-CBN production which will treat the vampire love story as "drama, romance, and fantasy."

It will be directed by Cathy Garcia Molina and is scheduled to begin filming sometime in February, in both the Philippines and abroad.

The news comes as an upheaval to Twilighters across the internet, who have started an online petition to halt production on Takipsilim because it will "ruin the real Twilight."

Oh don't worry, the American money-grubbing sequel is already working on that!

Filipino Twilight tv drama .... I am kind of scared and interested at the same time :)

Ye-jin Son to star in “Baekyahaeng” (remake of TBS drama “Byakuyako”)

Ye-jin Son rebounded nicely from the horrible film “Open City” and brought people to the theatres with her last film “My Wife Got Married“. That film takes an unusual look at relationships by having Ye-jin Son marrying two men. Following her performance in “My Wife Got Married,” Ye-jin Son is scheduled to star in the new film “Baekyahaeng.” “Baekyahaeng” is based on the 1999 novel “Byakuyako,” by popular Japanese mystery writer Keigo Higashino. In 2006, Japanese television TBS broadcasted their own adaptation of “Byakuyako,” starring Takayuki Yamada (Train Man / Crows Zero) and Haruka Ayase (Cyborg Girl).

What’s known so far about “Baekyahaeng” is that Ye-jin Son will play main character Mi-ho, while co-star Su Ko will play her lifelong friend Yo Han. Acting vet Jong-won Lee will play Seung-jo, a good guy that promises Mi-ho fortune and fame but eventually is used by Mi-ho. The film will be directed by newcomer Shin-woo Park. No word yet on how faithful the script will stay the original novel.

Filming for “Baekyahaeng” starts February, 2009.

I thought that was just for Japan. They did the same thing for Wanted and Spiderman 2 and the U.S. never heard any of it.

Ninomiya goes "Door to Door"
from Tokyograph
Arashi's Kazunari Ninomiya is starring in a TBS drama special called "DOOR TO DOOR." This is the third and last in the network's "kandou drama" series, which includes last year's "Marathon" and 2006's "Sukoshi wa, Ongaeshi ga Dekita Kana." Ninomiya also starred in those two specials.

These dramas are based on true stories about young men overcoming illnesses. "DOOR TO DOOR" is inspired by Bill Porter, an American door-to-door salesman who achieved the highest sales for his company despite suffering from cerebral palsy. In the U.S., Porter's story became a successful book, and it was turned into an Emmy-nominated made-for-TV movie on the TNT network in 2002.

TBS's version of "DOOR TO DOOR" is set in Japan, with Ninomiya playing the lead as a man named Hideo Kurasawa. His supporting cast includes Kanako Higuchi as his mother and Rosa Kato as a co-worker. Filming started on Sunday. TBS will air the drama on March 29 at 9:00pm.

New MatsuJun!!

MatsuJun, Gakky pair up for "Smile"
from Tokyograph
Jun Matsumoto and Yui Aragaki will co-star in a new TBS drama series titled "Smile." Takayuki Takuma ("Hana Yori Dango") is handling the script, though he is using his real name rather than his usual pen name of Mikio Satake.

Matsumoto plays a half-Filipino whose father has died and mother has disappeared. Despite his misfortune and the issues he deals with, such as race, he lives his life positively with a constant smile.

Similarly, Aragaki plays a young woman living cheerfully despite losing her ability to speak due to an accident. Her character is said to be modeled after a real actress in the theatrical troupe that Takuma runs.

The supporting cast includes Kiichi Nakai as a lawyer who watches over Matsumoto and Aragaki.

"Smile" will air on Friday nights at 10:00pm, starting in April.

And...

"Zettai Kareshi" returns
from Tokyograph
Fuji TV's live-action "Zettai Kareshi" series is coming back for a special episode. Based on the manga by Yuu Watase, the series originally aired from April to June 2008.

The special, titled "Zettai Kareshi ~Kanzen Muketsu no Koibito Robot~," is set after the end of the series. Mocomichi Hayami will reprise his role as the robot Night (Naito) Tenjo, along with co-stars Saki Aibu and Hiro Mizushima. The cast will have a couple of additions, with Ryoko Kuninaka playing a brilliant scientist and Asahi Uchida playing her assistant.

Fuji TV will broadcast the episode this spring.

I have been lazy! First update in a while...

Here is a new project for Nino!

From ANN:
The NTV News 25 program and Sports Hochi newspaper report on Thursday that Hiroya Oku's Gantz science-fiction action manga will be adapted into two live-action films starring Kazunari Ninomiya (Tekkonkinkreet, Letters from Iwo Jima) of the Arashi musical group and award-winning actor Ken'ichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Detroit Metal City, Nana, The Legend of Kamui). Shinsuke Sato (The Princess Blade, Sunadokei, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror) is directing.

The story follows a young Tokyo college student who is reanimated after a deadly subway accident. Kei Kurono (Ninomiya) and his friend Masaru Kato (Matsuyama) go on violent, seemingly endless missions at the behest of an unseen host.

This is the first time that these two well-known actors have worked together. Filming begins next month and is slated to end next April, and the two leads have been undergoing training and practicing action sequences. The films will open in the winter and spring of 2011.

Oku just returned from a three-month hiatus to launch the "Final Phase" of his Gantz psychological adventure manga in this year's 44th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on Thursday. Gantz has been running in the magazine since July of 2000, and the 26 current volumes have sold over 10 million copies.

Dark Horse Comics announced at Anime Expo 2007 that it licensed the manga for North America, and it will publish the eighth volume next month. ADV Films released Gonzo's television anime adaptation of the manga.

Update: More background information added. The project will be split into two films.

Update 2: According to the Mainchi Shimbun paper, Yūsuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys trilogy, Robo Rock, Bloody Monday, Kami no Shizuku, Yasuko to Kenji) is writing the screenplays. Takahiro Sato (Death Note, 20th Century Boys) is producing the project, and Digital Frontier (Summer Wars, Appleseed, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone) is in charge of the CG work.

Update 3: Young Jump has launched a site for the movies.
