My favorite has to be Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai). I watched it like 5-6 times over the years, a must see if you like samurai movies. It's quite old, i think it was made around 1950. The story is very good. An anime series was based upon this movie, Samurai 7; I haven't seen it yet, but I'm planning to watch it in the near future.

I couldn't sit through the Samurai 7 anime, but it may just be outside my taste. The movie Seven Samurai however, really is one of the best. Definitely a favorite of mine too.

I got to add Hidden Fortress, Rashomon, Sanjuro, Throne of Blood, Yojimbo, The Bad Sleep Well, & High and Low when it comes to Kurosawa & Mifune. (in that order) By far the best actor- director team ever!

Other Kurosawa films I absolutely loved: Ikiru & Ran. Ran is probably my favorite movie of all time, even though Mifune's not in it.

Ran is a fantastic movie indeed :D

Some asian movies I loved:

The Host (Korean masterpiece)
Infernal Affairs (the original, much better than that stupid movie The Departed)
Way of the Dragon (guess who the big boss is xD)
Police Story (Jackie Chan is a pretty cool guy)

Of course there are more I like, but it is sometimes a little hard to remember them.

Yep that's a good one Rasco. (=

I recently watched Party 7, and although it looks promising, AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE. It was boring to say the least. It had lots a crazy characters and a great cast, but no substance. One of those movies that doesn't go anywhere.

@Kittilicious I watched Twilight Samurai and The Hidden Blade. They were very good movies. Thanks for the recommendation.

@Bugsquasher The Host was a good, not one of my favorites, but I enjoyed watching it. A Korean movie that I liked was "Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring". It's about the circle of life, could have fitted well in the "makes you think thread" if it were an anime XD

@gINGEr Forgot about Ran, it was fantastic... think I might re-watch it

Infernal Affairs is amazing. Damn Hollywood had to steal the script to make an ugly version of it (the Departed).

So I go to look that movie up & discover that imdb is linking to hulu. How long has that been going on? I don't really care for imdb but I'm surprised I haven't seen that feature before. Anybody know? Anyway you can watch the full film there. Looks pretty cool but with a ton of commercials.

I haven't seen too many films from the far east. But of the ones that i have seen, I would have to say:
1. Battle Royale
2. 2ldk
3. Please Teach Me English
4. Ichi (The Killer)
All of the others that i have seen are dreadful live action reprises of anime. I still need to watch Old Boy, Lady Vengeance and the other one from that series (Lots of recommendations for those films).

Ichi is one of my favs. The others you mentioned are high on my plan to watch. Never heard of Please Teach Me English & 2ldk, but both look great! Thanks :3 I don't really like the anime adaptations either btw.

@ JaganshiHiei1987, I just loved "when the last sword is drawn" I am a huge sucker for samurai movies or animes of that subject!

@ theodorejhooker, I have seen Battle Royale and loved it! I haven't seen 2ldk or Please teach me english. I will have to check those two out soon :-)
And I love Oldboy and Lady Vengeance, very gruesome but a amazing storyline. If you love those films you must checkout Thirst, also directed by Chan-Wook Park. Pretty cool vampire flick!!!!

@Kittilicious yeah, samurai movies are the best... Planning to watch another this weekend, "Love and honor"... A fried recommended it, looked it up and seems promising...
And does anybody know some good ninja movies... I watched Azumi last week and was disappointed with it.. Didn't even bother to watch the sequel... And watched a few a month ago, can't remember the names, but they were also bad... I downloaded "Shinobi: Heart Under Blade" but I read that it's a live action off Basilisk, and I'm afraid it will be yet another bad one...

The Way of the Dragon :D

@Jaganshi: Do you know Curse of the Golden Flower? It features some ninjas.
Of course, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is also a famous ninja movie. Both aren't 100% ninja movies though.

Thanks. Yeah, I've seen it. I love his older movies. I think I might rewatch it though because it has been quite a while. Definitely have to throw in Way of the Dragon also. Good thing I don't have any plans this weekend.

Watched "Zatoichi - The Blind swordsman". The story was very good and the fighting scenes were awesome.
Also seen "Lady snowblood". Again, good story... It seems that Taratino used this movie in making Kill Bill vol 1.
And to my surprise "Alien vs Ninja" wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. At first, I watched it just out of curiosity, expecting something awful, but the movie was okay-ish..

I love Zatoicihi! The other two I will have to look into seeing. I've been putting off Lady Snowblood for a while.

I recently watched Please Teach Me English, after seeing it posted by a member on this forum. I loved it!! :3 It was directed well, very funny, and overall cute. I want to recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I also watched Kamikaze girls. I wish I hadn't put it off for so long. It was highly recommended to me years ago. It was really different and starred Anna Tsuchiya, whom I wasn't familiar with previously. It was a lot of fun too.
