I watched this a while back, but if I remember correctly, this movie takes place in the intervening time between Goku's fight with Frieza and the battle with the androids.
I'm pretty sure that is it, so I guess if you want to keep it chronilogical, watch it before the android saga and before Trunks goes back in time, preferably right after Goku gets back to earth after his training in space where he learns instant transmission.

I think. Hope this helps, or just watch it whenever.

Actually it would be past the Android arc, because Gohan turns SSJ in this, but he does not have that ability before the Android arc. So presumably this is set just before the Cell games.
