I believe Panty and Stocking is on Crunchyroll, so we can watch it.
I have a big mega list of stuff I came up with awhile back:
Aoi Bungaku - 12 episodes
A series of short arcs, each 2-3 epsiodes, each arc the plot of a piece of classical Japanese literature. Generally a bit on the morbid side.
Aoi Hana - 11 episodes
A slice of life shoujo-ai series.
Bakemonogatari - 15 episodes
By the same people that made Baccano, it's the story about a Japanese student who meets really strange girls and weird stuff happens, and it's visually really unique as it has random shots of like live action and textbook figures, etc. Crazy series.
Black Rock Shooter - 1 ep (40 minutes)
Duality between a schoolgirl anime and an epic battle in an unknown space - yet they are connected somehow.
Bungaku Shoujo - 1 ep (30 minutes), also 1 movie (1 hour 40 minutes)
A story about a girl that eats stories... literally. Instead of absorbing books by their words visually, she reads them, eats them, and describes their taste. The anime follows a story-within-a-story pacing, as she then describes the story to the viewer. Very pleasant anime.
Kuragehime - 11 eps (on Funimation)
A homely and nerdy girl has one love in her life - jellyfish. She moves to Tokyo into an apartment building with other women who are all obsessive about their own true loves, too. The one rule? No men allowed. So when a cross-dressing man helps her out and stays the night, a shock is sure to come.
Mouryou no Hako - 13 eps + 1 bonus ep
In the 1940s, a young schoolgirl is mysteriously killed as she attempts to run away from home. At the same time, an author becomes obsessed with the idea that people can become all-knowing boxes, and a religion around this idea begins to emerge. Are these two related? And how can this mystery be solved? A dark and dramatic horror anime based mostly on subtlety.
Ookamikakushi - 12 eps
After moving to a new town, main character (I can't remember his name) finds there's something odd about his new home - people are overly defensive of their traditions, he's told never to go into the old town, and people randomly "transfer out" of the town. Being suspicious that these are actually murders, he attempts to investigate, against the will of the entire town. By the same people that made Higurashi, so it has a similar feel.
Wellber no Monogatari: Sisters of Wellber - 13 eps
The princess of Wellber is being roped into marrying a prince because it would bring good relations between their countries. However, that prince attempts to kill her as soon as they are alone together. With the help of a bounty hunter, she escapes from the castle with a peace treaty that is the only other way to avoid the war. Warriors from all the kingdoms give chase as she tries to bring peace before war breaks out.
Crunchyroll:
Eve no Jikan (6 ep OVA) - A set of 6 stories about a cafe where androids and humans can spend time together without any discrimination.
Fortune Arterial (12 ep, fall 2010) - A harem story about a boy that transfers to a school where some of the students are vampires
Kite Liberator (movie) - A movie about a schoolgirl that works at a shady cafe and also kills bad people. There's a second story about a rocket in space where some experiments have gone wrong, and the stories meet in the middle. Very nice movie.
Melancholy of Haruhi (13 ep) - Do I even need to go on about this one?
Natsume Yuujinchou (13 ep) - A short and pleasant slice-of-life series about a boy that can talk to spirits, and he has to find each one to return their names.
Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin (12 ep, summer 2010) - Maya comes home to the Occult Gakuin for her father's - the Headmaster's - funeral. She declares she hates the occult at that moment, but is drawn into the search for Nostradamus's Key when a naked man appears from a light on the roof.
Otome Youkai Zakuro (13 ep, fall 2010) - A pleasant romantic comedy about a group of half-spirit women working alongside human men as they try to eliminate stray spirits from harming people.
Pale Cocoon (40 minutes) - In the future, a man works to uncover records of the past at a facility, and finds a strange video he wants to restore.
Sasameki Koto (13 ep, fall 2009) - A refreshing schoolgirl slice of life about a girl that's quite frank about herself liking girls, and her best friend who is secretly in love with her, as the make the club for girls that like girls!
Sora no Woto (13 eps, winter 2010) - In a run-down fortress, 5 girls gather as a military unit. Kanata, the main character, joined the army since it was the only way she would be able to play music. But behind the cute exterior, there is a serious threat approaching, and that threat is war.
Shinraku! Ika Musume (12 ep, fall 2010) - A kids show about a loli with tentacles coming out of her head. She wants to conquer the world, but she's just too innocent to understand what that entails. Hilarious.
The World God Only Knows (unknown length as of yet, fall 2010) - The God is a young student, and his world is the games on his PFP. There is not a girl that he hasn't made to love him yet - except any 3D ones, of course. When he receives a challenge to win over the heart of the most difficult quest yet, he quickly accepts, not realizing this quest will be in the 3D world. |
