Going to Earth wasn't an option for a few reasons, one being that they were scientists and interfering with Earth was not something they would not consider as a result. They were also aliens infected with a deadly illness - even the less moral members of the group wouldn't have willingly exposed humans to the infection that was killing them. Also, the aliens were /tiny/ - we don't get a good impression of their size in PSME but the sequel implies that they were incredibly small (a lot smaller than humans). It's not like they were humans on the moon and it was as simple as skipping back home once something went wrong, they were scientists who kept observing until the very end without disregarding their mission. Fairly noble, all things considered - plus there wouldn't have been a series if everything worked out okay in the first place! ;) |
