Hi, I've been using MAL for over a dozen years and just ran into an issue I hadn't noticed before.

I attended Crunchyroll's Sneak Peek event (a grab bag of random upcoming anime) and afterward marked the episodes I watched as Watched on MAL. Two of the titles are not shows I plan to continue, so I tried to set them to Dropped. However, MAL will not allow it and shows a message that titles which haven't aired can only be marked as Plan to Watch, even if I set the episode count back to 0.

To be clear, I really appreciate that MAL lets users log and mark anime that has not aired yet. That is actually one of the reasons I left another tracking site in the past, since it would not let me record anything it did not think had aired. Under normal circumstances, though, I would want the option to mark a title as Dropped immediately once I know I am not continuing it.

The issue here is that using Plan to Watch still affects the show's stats (member counts), and I do not want to contribute to those numbers for titles I am not actually planning to watch. Is there a way to mark an unaired title as Dropped, or otherwise remove or undo the entry entirely, after logging an episode? If not, could this restriction be reconsidered?

Edit:
You can mark a show as dropped from the main anime page, but not from the edit details menu.

Even Dropped adds to the member count. :I
Well, you can just delete the show from your list if you want to undo the entry entirely.

It won't stay that way, though - there's a daily script that "corrects" statuses back to "Plan to Watch" for unaired entries.

There is a general workaround, though ; MAL can mark specific entries as "Previewed on [Date]", thus allowing users to put it as Watching/On-Hold/Dropped.
Here's an example. (see the "Previewed: Nov 23, 2024" in the left column.)

You just need to notify MAL (for example here) with the list of anime that were shown on this "Sneak Peek" event.

@Jhiday All four titles have now been updated with preview dates that should let people add them to their list.
