Episode 1

The previous season ended in a rather awkward place as Naofumi and company were attacked by assassins from Q'ten Lo after Raphtalia donned the miko outfit from the other world that only royals have the right to wear that signaled to others that she's out to take the throne. This all happening as Naofumi and company are preparing to take on the phoenix after helping the other heroes get over their mental health issues from the previous wave and being duped by Myne like Naofumi was at the beginning.

So the journey to Q'ten Lo begins as Naofumi and his party enter Siltvelt, a nation of demihumans. The place has been awaiting the Shiled Hero's arrival as he's being treated like a king. But before he can get to Q'ten Lo, he must deal with a sickness that has been spreading around Siltvelt and figure out a way to purge it. This is something that could take months, but Naofumi will do what is needed. Then it ends with Naofumi coming across Jaralis, a lion demi-human who claims he can get a ship to Q'ten Lo arranged right away, but seeing that he wasn't at there when Naofumi was on the throne that he's probably one of Werner's enemies. And so, the journey continues with the Wave against the phoenix looming, but a number of other immediate problems that need to be taken care of before that happens.

At the end of last season there was an attempt on Raphtalia's life, so now Naofumi is heading to her homeland to hopefully clear things up. But now that he's arrived at Siltvelt to get a ship to Q'ten Lo, the demi-human citizens there don't want him to leave so quickly. There is someone who claims he can expediently arrange a ship for Naofumi's group, but Naofumi believes the offer is too good to be true. This pit stop is looking to last longer than is necessary.

I'm surprised I remember enough about the last season to not be completely lost at the start of this season.

So we're going to find out that everyone in Siltvelt is actually super racist towards each other?

Episode 2

Right off the bat, there's trouble that strikes in the bath as Naofumi ends up bathing in aphrodisiac water that attracts all the ladies, which Werner claims is a courtesy to the previous Shield Heroes. Seeing that Werner is going to try and spoil him like crazy that Naofumi demands to get the boat to Q'ten Lo right away, hence he decides to see what Jaralis can do. And then Fohl and Atla are told that Jaralis is involved with their father's death and to be wary of the lion. So in all, Naofumi can't trust either Werner or Jaralis with Werner intending to keep him in Siltvelt, while Jaralis is plotting to seize power in Siltvilt as he tried to poison everybody. Things have gotten quite ugly there as Naofumi has two more problems to deal with before getting to the matter at hand in Q'ten Lo.

Queen Mirellia's warning about a harem being forced on Naofumi proves true, as an aphrodisiac is put in the bath water. But the intrigue deepens as Fohl and Atla learn that Jaralis, the lion man willing to expedite the process of arranging a boat, may be involved in their father's death. Naofumi has had enough of these meaningless delays, and a poisoning attempt on his life only exacerbates things, as the people seem only interested in finding blame.

I wouldn't be surprised if Naofumi set up this poisoning attempt himself to force the hand of the two conflicting parties. But just as Naofumi is about to slap his hands on the table to silence the squabble, Atla does it for him.

Better than the first episode and at least they didn't make use sit through twenty minutes of meetings like a certain other isekai is fond of doing.

Episode 3

It turns out that Fohl and Atla are children of the legendary white tiger demihuman hero Tairan. So after that stunt that Jaralis pulled, the chef confessed that he added poison because Jaralis forced him to as the lion thinks Naofumi is not the hero that Siltvelt had been waiting for. Then the Elder comes down to clear the air and expose Jaralis, as well as to settle things with a duel between Fohl and Jaralis, with Atla fighting by Fohl's side, while Jaralis brings a bull demihuman to the ring. And so, a high-stakes duel is about to play out that will decide the future of Siltvelt and what becomes of the Shield Hero seeing that Naofumi will be stuck in Siltvelt of the tigers don't win.

Atla lectures the other demi-humans about whose feelings they really should be considering, but Jaralis won't back down, and things eventually escalate to a duel between the two of them. Fohl also wants to fight by his sister's side, so Jaralis brings in an ally as well. Naofumi's future is also on the line as well, as he'll be forced to marry the daughter of Jaralis's ally if the two siblings lose.

Ah yes, this is what we all watch anime for: Meetings.

There is absolutely no reason for Naofumi to accept the terms of the duel and it's profoundly stupid of him to do so. If he ends up property of Siltvelt and they keep him around then the world gets destroyed as he won't be there to fight the rest of the great beasts or whatever they call them. He'll be sitting with his thumb up his ass in Siltvelt trying not to get sexually assaulted by a cow girl.

Well, this is better than the last two seasons so far. That's not saying a ton, but at least I feel invested with what's happening. That's the difference between the characters driving the plot and having the plot push them around to wherever it needs them to be to force things to happen.

I don't mind meetings as long was what's taking place in them is directly relevant to the characters and they don't last much more than one full episode. When they stretch on for multiple episodes and they spend half the time--or more--talking about countries and characters we've never heard of before, and don't care about, that's when I start getting infinite assemblyomi flashbacks.

Episode 4

Fohl and Atla take on Jaralis and Lyceras in their duel, and it is revealed that their father Tyran was the son of the late king Tairan, who couldn't be trusted with running the country. A rebellion happened after the king's death, and Tyran was killed. Initially, Jaralis said that he was a coward who only cared about himself, but in truth he was betrayed and was killed by Jaralis. So the duel rages on with Atla making quick work of Lyceras, all while Fohl gets poisoned by Jaralis, but he manages to overcome it to knock Jaralis down. Then Jaralis uses a drug to transform himself into a full-fledged beast, but Fohl matches that with his own strength, all while his goons attack the palace. Jaralis is quite the trickster there as he will do anything and everything to seize the throne, but Fohl is certainly stronger than him.

Jaralis then confesses to killing the siblings' father Tyran, and then he drinks something to transform into a full-fledged lion. Fohl continues to attack, but he is soon pinned down. Just before Jaralis can deliver a mortal blow, Fohl transforms as well. Jaralis decides to call in more reinforcements, and the rest of Naofumi's party move in to deal with them.

See now, I like Atla, but the problem is I don't give a crap about Fohl. So all that drama was mostly wasted.

@zkeleton I don't care about Atla either. Frankly this show has just continued to add more and more worthless side characters while trying to make us give a shit. He has an entire village worth of worthless side characters.

I like how they have this sacred ceremonial duel but it has absolutely no rules whatsoever so you can be as shitty and underhanded as you want. The crowd didn't even react to his confession of killing white tiger dad because I guess that's not important either or him having a bunch of minions jump in to help him fight. Whatever goes.

Siltvelt as a country sucks ass and I wish they'd move on from it to the actual plot.

Episode 5

It started out as a duel, but once Jaralis brought in his goon squad, it's now an all-out war. Fohl easily overpowers Jaralis, but then he devours his own henchmen to turn into a tentacled chimera. Naofumi matches wits by powering up Fohl to turn him into a beast and he defeats Jaralis, putting an end to that traitor once and for all. After that, Naofumi and company visit the graves of Fohl's and Atla's parents, and then their hometown village where they visit their old home while waiting for the ship to Q'ten Lo to be ready, a Chinese-style palace, with Fohl preparing dinner for the crew. This goes to show that Fohl is quite strong and responsible seeing, and how much the siblings looked up to their parents. Next time, it's finally off to Q'ten Lo now that the traitor who tried to seize the throne has been dealt with and everything.

Jaralis's reinforcements are knocked down easy, but he can force them to get back up. Then he starts devouring his own allies and turns into a chimera, declaring his intent to kill Naofumi as well. Naofumi imbues Fohl with power to turn him into a tiger, and Fohl rushes Jaralis with a headstrong charge to take him down. While their ship is prepared, Fohl takes the group to his parents' graves, and later to their old house, where Fohl prepares dinner for everyone. With that, it's finally time to head to Q'ten Lo.

I thought Jaralis had some sort of evil political plot but it was actually just a generic world domination goal which makes this entire arc even more pointless.

I was wondering why the tiger kids hadn't gone all adult body like Raphtalia did. I guess they still haven't really explained it. Or maybe they did in an earlier season and I just forgot because everything else has been so memorable... Or maybe Atla thinks Naofumi is a lolicon and is staying child-like through force of will.

So if the tiger kids mom was human does that mean humans going out and boinking animals is what created the demi-humans?

Episode 6

After all those sidetracks in Siltvelt, it's time to set sail for Q'ten Lo. Before that, Naofumi returns home to report to the queen about Siltvelt joinin the battle against the Phoenix, as well as to make sure the village is well-protected while they are gone and deciding who to bring in Q'ten Lo. As it turns out, Keel is actually a girl and is being trained to be one. After making preparations, it's time to go to Q'ten Lo with Naofumi bringing Raphtalia, Raphy, Filo, Fohl, Atla, Sadeena, Gaelion, Itsuki, Rishia, and Erhard along. And just as expected they get attacked by assassins and this time knowing that they are resistant to hero weapons and they will self-destruct that they have an easier time handling them this time. But Naofumi and Raphtalia get knocked overboard by a vortex and they end up washing up in Q'ten Lo as they were called by the blue dragon. Naofumi realized that this is a dangerous journey, and he chose his comrades quite well as Gaelion was helpful in sensing danger ahead, while bringing a long-range attacker and Erhard is searching for his master that is rumored to be in Q'ten Lo.

Evidently, Fohl and Atla's mother was the sister of Mirellia's husband; no wonder he was so interested in the two of them. And Keel actually being a girl was a real shock. Naofumi brings along Gaelion the dragon; Itsuki and Rishia; and Erhard the blacksmith, who believes his master made the weapons used by Q'ten Lo's assassins. After getting attacked by some of those assassins out at sea, a vortex sweeps up Raphtalia, Naofumi, Sadeena, and Gaelion. Apparently, the Water Dragon called them with a message to restore Q'ten Lo to its rightful glory, and Naofumi's group now has to deal with a barrier that is preventing their ship from making landfall.

Episode 7

Naofumi, Raphtalia, Sadeena, and Gaelion arrive in Q'ten Lo, but have the barrier to deal with that's keeping everybody else out. The port town has been taken over by Bearga, who serves the emperor, and he has been imposing heavy taxes on the town while also implementing a no-kill policy that makes it impossible for this fishing village to make ends meet. Luminous tracks down Naofumi and company and his father Raluva was very close to Raphtalia's parents. So Naofumi and company go out to take down Bearga, who casts a barrier to block out everybody's powers and they are quickly overwhelmed. But the person that turns out to be Erhard's master lends Naofumi a hand with a Sakura Shield that isn't blocked by the barrier to turn the tables as he will always side with hot chicks. So with that, the fishing village has been liberated and everybody arrives. It's a good thing Raphtalia has allies there who were well-prepared to help them out.

The barrier that has to be brought down is at a lighthouse, and the people of an impoverished fishing village have a reason to storm that place as well. After meeting with the village's mayor, Naofumi's group joins the soldiers to storm the lighthouse. The group becomes overwhelmed when the lighthouse's keeper Bearga creates a field disrupting Naofumi's shield powers, but a flirty man tosses him a shield that can mitigate the field's effects. Gaelion and Sadeena take down the barrier while Raphtalia dispatches Bearga. Naofumi's ship can finally dock, and evidently the flirty man is Erhard's master, Muramasa.

Episode 8

Now that the barrier is down after taking control of the lighthouse, so that everybody can make it into Q'ten Lo, the next order of business is to get to the mainland as the emperor there has unleashed Orochi to stop them. That beast is quite tough as simply slicing off its heads won't do them any good since they just grow back. But they figure out that they need to slice all eight heads at once. So after some clever maneuvering and teamwork, Raphtalia delivers the finishing blow. But that only caused the snake to return bigger and stronger as that wasn't the real body they attacked. But they figure out that they need to cut its protective amulet, and Raphtalia does that, then Sadeen finishes it off. That was quite the battle there as the size of that monster and all made it so that it took everybody to do their part to defeat that 8-headed monstrosity.

An eight-headed hydra, Orochi, has been unleashed, and Naofumi's group moves to take it down before it can cause a lot of damage. They manage to remove its protection and cut off all its heads, but then it explodes, and another Orochi emerges in its place. It turns out the real Orochi is still underground, so Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Sadeena head into a cave to draw it out. Naofumi turns Sadeena into an orca, and she and Raphtalia cut off Orochi's protection. Raphtalia then takes out the core to finish off the monster. Apparently, Orochi's core is a cursed sword, and Naofumi found a way to strengthen his shield weapons as well.

Naofumi and company head into the Q'ten Lo mainland where they meet Zodia, and she ends up visiting Muramasa's workshop. Naofumi, S'yne, Muramasa, and Zodia end up having a night out drinking and playing mahjong, while a drunk Zodia is proposing to him, but of course Naofumi is here on business for Raphtalia to be sword in as the empress so that Naofumi can center the old capital. Then the next day, Raphtalia is set to become empress, but before that the government army launches a surprise attack on the rear guard, and a message comes in from somebody claiming to be an enemy messenger as it turns out that Zodia is the Water Dragon miko and the one who wrote the letter. There's just something unusual about Zodia there seeing that she's unusually clingy towards Naofumi, but she certainly needs his help to deal with something sinister going on.

A girl named Zodia gets lost and wanders into Naofumi's encampment, and they end up going out for drinks with Muramasa and S'yne. Zodia likes to drink a lot, just like Sadeena. As Naofumi's group approaches Q'ten Lo's old capital for their next battle, the government's army launches a surprise attack from the rear, but they're called back by their commander because they acted rashly. It turns out that the army's commander is Zodia, who is Sadeena's successor, and now she's requesting an audience with Naofumi to try and settle things diplomatically.
