I've mostly seen it in the context of sex, and sexual stories, but a shocking number of people don't really seem to take the story as it comes. The most common case is the story concluding that some girl isn't a virgin because she didn't bleed. Inevitably, there's at least one guy that shows up like "Hehe. Stupid incel, just because she broke her hymen doesn't mean she's not a virgin. Girls breaks it for lots of reasons!", as if these characters exist outside the narrative, and if we just dug deeper into their lives, we'd find out FMC lost hers as a child when she farted too hard in the elevator.

When you're reading a story, especially a short one, the starting assumption is you're being given perfect information. There's no need to try finding some other angle to everything you're seeing.

A more personal example is found in a series I did called "The Day I Decided to Make My Cheeky Gyaru Sister Understand in My Own Way". Now, I'll start by telling you that the author of the story is not a competent writer. To call FMC's characterization "inconsistent" is to understate the problem. But the premise is simple: Older sister is a Gyaru that falls into all the stereotypes, promiscuity included. Brother tries to make her "understand". The story begins by telling us she is, in fact, a クソビッチ (Dirty Slut), has her going out late at night, barely dressed, and she has the exact "fuck you, you're not my dad" attitude you'd expect as her brother tells her to stop. She finds out she's been lied to about the exact number of people at said party, notices the extras are all the men she's been sleeping with, and then she stays, and drinks, looking uncomfortable all the while.

Cue the fanbox. It can be summed up as an "Animalistic NTR Gangbang Sex Trance"

But here's the issue: Despite it being described as an orgy by the author, the story itself telling us she's a Dirty Slut, the girl literally begging for more, actively engaging in foreplay despite the men's desire to get things started, affirmatively answering when asked if she's enjoying herself, the fact that the author literally can't make rape stories, etc., a shocking number of people showed up calling this rape. They see everything, and then they try to find some alternate interpretation, while ignoring everything that contradicts that. The entries on NH and MD are basically permanently vandalized because of this issue.

I don't understand this impulse to try finding some new angle to a simple story that's shut off all alternative interpretations.
