| Hagu and Shuuji may love each other dearly, but their relationship is based on nursing Hagu and supporting her art. Hagu says it clearly: painting and drawing are what matters to her. She never says she loves anyone, never indicates that she has a crush other than the childhood crush she still carries for her cousin. She is obviously inexperienced at love and romance, although she seems flattered and touched by the feelings of Takemoto and Morita. We never hear any details of Hagu and Shuuji's later relationship. We don't know if they actually get married, or ever develop a sexual relationship. Personally, I think Hagu is asexual. And I think that is okay with Shuuji. Their relationship was never about sex or what we think of as a normal romance. What do you think about the way Umino-sensei handled the sex lives of her characters? |
