I haven't watched Evangelion in a long time. I really loved this series though and I don't want to regret watching the movie when I can't even remember half of the plot and characters.
So I was thinking maybe I should re-watch Evangelion and then watch this

What should I do?

If you really watched it a long time ago, I recommend re-watching it (I think someday I have to re-watch it too...)

Watch the Evangelion TV series first then End of Evangelion. Thats the core of the series and if you want to the 4 movie rebuild films then go ahead, I think thay are pretty decent.

if you want to just watch the rebuild then you should probably rewatch 1.0 and 2.0 and save NGE and EOE for later, but if you want to rewatch everything then NGE>EOE>1.0>2.0>3.0>3.0+1.0

I recommend just watching the movies rather than rewatching the series as they go over the TV series in the first and second movie. however, the movies are different from the TV series as they introduce new characters and add in new information into the plot.

The first two movies cover the first nine episodes or so of the original series and the last movie touched on the last four episodes and End in a roundabout way. It is up to you if you rewatch the the rest of the series to fill in the blanks after the first two Rebuilds

Not needed I'd say but definitely recommended. Watching them one after another is an experience

Nah it's not really necessary, the rebuild universe is completely different.

Yeah, the rebuild movies aren't that long, you should rewatch them... Then watch 4.0 in succession because you DON'T WANT TO wait until you forget even the smallest details

No. The movies are just a “what if this happened instead of this” thing

I'm told you'll appreciate certain aspects of the movie alot more if you rewatch the original. Personally I was wondering the same thing and I've come to the wild conclusion that I need to watch anything and everything Hideaki Anno related, in order to fully appreciate it. Don't be me (stupid).

It's not necessary, you can just watch the movies, it's completely different. But it still has his own charm to be honest, had a great time watching it.

I say rewatch the TV series if you want to, it's my favourite series of all time, so I need very little convincing to rewatch it myself.

but I'd say watch the TV series then end of eva.

but then rebuild 1 is optional, but 2,3 and 4 are definitely worth watching.

altho you could just watch the rebuild films as, as a series they are self contained and dont need you to have seen the tv series. maybe with less time on character development. but all the main plot points are there with some twists.

rebuild 1 is a straight remake of like the first 7 episodes. 2 is a remake but with some major twists and 2 is my favourite of all the rebuild films. it captures everything I love about eva.

and then 3 and 4 are a nice twist on the eva story and just the best closure we could ask for in such a long running series. I still can't get over how good 3.0+1.0 really was. really happy with how things worked out for characters that have been through so much trauma, and how horrific the original timeline was with end of evangelion for them all.

it's basically its own story, it follows basically the same narrative but with its own quirks and methods. think of it like 2x2 and 2+2 both equal 4 but each have their own methods of finding the solution.

Not really.
You can just watch the Evangelion movies 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and Thrice upon a time.
