That's one of my favorites moments from the show, watching Matsuda go for it without hesitation gave me some of the best chills an anime has ever given me

I second this. Matsuda never bothered me as a character. He was fun to watch and did contribute once in a while to the overall investigations. Seeing him go from a light-hearted dude who always thought of Light to be innocent to just straight up shooting Light is by far one of the best moments in the entire story. They did his character justice.

I thought it was interesting for the fact that we get to see Matsuda and the Task Force come to the realization of how evil Light was for the years that they worked with him and known him. It made for a tense standoff. But with that being said, I can't say that it made a big change for me in the likeability of his character. It was a huge moment of character development for him. But that was the one moment of seriousness we got from him out of most of the other times where he's being silly or goofing off.

I loved Mastuda the whole time though he had wasn't one of my favorite characters, he made me chuckle and I appreciated how honest he always was about his views on Kira and said the things no one else really wanted to say. Seeing his reaction to the Kira reveal made me feel so bad for him but love him even more.

I yesterday created a forum after finishing this anime just simply because it had an impact on me, so, much that when one user wrote he couldn't able to watch any anime for a long time after seeing Death Note Ending I couldn't abled to relate to it at first but it wasn't too late when I started feeling the same. I was planning to watch One Outs after discussing a little at first but couldn't able to watch it for the rest of day and ended up watching a hollywood movie instead and replying to the people on the forum.

The Ending of this anime was so, so, impactful on me that I couldn't abled to fully describe my experience nor couldn't abled to create a forum that provides enough things to be discussed. I was just listening to the soundtracks of this anime and came across this clip https://youtu.be/xxXJgfR4FWs in which we can see the cornered Light trying to kill Near and then suddenly Matsuda shoots him and Light starts yelling like a maniac, I think he did that inorder to scare Matsuda because we know Light can manipulate a person's psychology but Matsuda a character which I didn't like much before this scene as this character wasn't unnecessary and uncontributing but throughout the show for the most part was a guy who try to give us some comic relief and sometimes shares his brutally honest thoughts regarding "Kira" got matured in this scene and maked Light's character look more despicable than before to me. So, what you guys think about this scene and Matsuda? Also is it only me who recieved that much impact from this anime?

No, you are not the only one ofc.
Death Note is a masterpiece and also was my intro anime. It also maked me so sad when L died.
Undoubtedly DN has one of the best clash between protagonist and antagonist with heavy psychological battles. Every episodes were full of plot twists and the was also so satisfying 🖤
And Matsuda is really a likeable character.

I can’t agree with the experience you had after the very ending of Death Note, but I shared the same feelings after Ep25! I didn’t even know that there was more to the anime for about 1-3years with N and M (which honestly shouldn’t have lived up to L‘s lvl of genius/idealism, especially bc they weren’t even planned at the beginning).

With Death Note as one of my first ”Anime“, after I found out what anime are XD, I couldn’t watch anything after DN and the bar for what niveau an anime would need, just for me to watch it, was set preetty high!

One of the problems was that there was no classical character development, as seen in other anime, except with Lights psychology after Ep25 and Matsuda since he joined the special force-until the end, which is why I didn’t rly like him. He is too different in terms of ideals and humanity, as if from another genre (that’s what Fan Service characters usually offer but he was relevant for the overall plot).

But that’s just my personal opinion out of memory, I didn’t think enough about the anime or it’s too long ago. There might be more to it, but Lights Kira side was just a new part/alter ego, no developed personality of Light (until Ep26 aired). That said, it will remain as a very memorable experience to me!

Enjoy other, similar psychothriller/crimi/dark anime and you’ll get due to it! (Monster, Zankyou no Terror, Rainbow, Elfenlied,…)

Your thoughts and opinions comes from your experience of it so as mine. No offence for the difference. Have seen Elfen Lied was "fine" overall nothing much to say about, will watch Terror in Resonance as the director is same as Cowboy Bebop but still quite worry about the overall product given MAPPA is the production, Rainbow and Monster were highly recommend to me when I asked my friends for grounded anime and manga, they said this there are the best out there.

I see. Well, if you don't mind could you elaborate your take on anime complexity cause on my first forum you wrote that Death Note misunderstood for it's complexity and depth, what anime do you think have genuine depth and complexity to them and why Death Note is a misunderstood case here?

It also gave me a lasting impact after watching this anime to the point that I didn't feel like watching another anime. I gave myself some time to internalize it 'cause it was a masterpiece, especially with that ending oh my goodness; beautiful sunset while we see Ryuk at the top of a tower, saying his last words indirectly to Light; that he enjoyed every moment with him. Took me a while to swallow that in.

And I also appreciate the courage Matsuda showed when he shot Light in that episode. It's nice that someone finally said it!

I think Matsuda is the comedic relief of the show. Yeah, even the most dark and gritty shows have their more "chill" elements.

always loved matsuda, but probably because i was like 10 when i first watched so i liked him as a comedy relief, but i always liked that he was the one to share his thoughts on kira even tho they werent exactly alligned with the other members of the police. His final scene with Light also was so well done and impacful that is one of the only anime scenes that i remeber perfectly from stard to end, i still have lines of the portuguese dub(we have a very good dub xd) in my mind and sometines i repeat them to myself xd
