Is this OVA optional or is it the 27th episode of the show? I’m not sure if it is considered part of the series or not.

While this OVA didn't make me like the ending, it added a little bit of explanation for some of the confusing bits of the last episode. I definitely think you should consider watching it.

It's like the 27th episode, you can skip it, but I think you should watch it, because the ending proposed in this episode is really good whereas the last episode has that ending that I won't spoil.

the ending is left kinda ambiguous, this rounds the story out, so you should definitely watch it

But I don't imagine that it be quite necessary.
That's just me tho.
They're not exactly one thing. The ova is separate from the series so why does it influence your decision making ?

There was an Anime I watched a few weeks ago where I was required to watch an ova to finish the series. When I rated it I took the ova into consideration. But for Mirai Nikki, I can't tell if I should consider the original series incomplete or not. That's what I'm talking about.
