Yup, brotherhood isn't a sequel, it's a standalone anime. No prior/post seasons.

You can if you want. I think a lot of people have done that

I think the 2003 one is still really good though

I wish I did that, FMA was so bad I just can’t pull the strength to watch FMAB, I’m gonna have to wait a couple months.

I watched both and recommend both.

Keep in mind that the earlier arcs are done better in the old 1 and r rushed in the new 1 -because they assume u have already watched the old 1. That is the main weakness of the new FMA that most ppl won’t tell u about.

It's optional and many fmab fans saying that it didn't followed original storyline so you can skip it but I wouldn 't recommend skipping because imo it's even better than fmab.
I'm saying this because idc about manga and never read it.For me every piece of work is standalone and I consider them like that.
Fma has much more dark and serious tone, seinen type of vibe on the other hand fmab is much more shounen.
Remember what Master Oogway told us:

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

I always suggest people watch 2003 first. I love both, but 2003 is just a little bit worse imo. I find most people who start with Brotherhood and go to 2003 after are a little more cynical than the other way around. I find people get the most enjoyment from both if they start with 2003.

Yeah 2003 went anime original, not that good. Brotherhood is a better adaptation with better animation

Do it, don't listen to people who say first arcs are rushed on Brotherhood, they just skipped some minor details that aren't even relevant for the plot, if you haven't watched FMA 2003 neither readed the manga, you won't even notice the rushing, believe me, I speak from personal experience

Yup skip it. If you’re interested, just watch videos comparing them once you’ve completed brotherhood and you’ll see why

Relationship building is the charm of FMA, as well as its originality in comparison to the source material.

Watch both versions as they are equally good. You could watch them in either order although I do recommend watching 2003 before Brotherhood as it helps you form a much better bond with some of the minor characters who get little to no screen time in BroHo version.

Completely agree. I much prefer FMA to FMAB, but I also really dislike shounen in general. Even FMA walks the line between the two, but it's so well done I don't mind it as much.

I understand I'm in the minority though, and I think your typical anime fan probably would like FMAB more.

Bruh, there's already a thread for your question.
Basically, the brotherhood is more identical to the source.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Watch FMA:B first. It is the true canon story as per the manga.

FMA was made before the manga ended(I think) and thus it deviates from the manga, but it's still a very interesting story. Highly recommend watching it + conqueror of shamballa after the main series

There's like no reason to ever watch the original FMA. It's such a pointless series after you've watched FMAB since it adds nothing of value to the franchise.

Brotherhood is a standalone !
Or more or less a reboot. It has nothing to do with the 03 version.
The 03 version has a diffrent ending and main villian do to it coming out before the manga was finished, soo most people will just recommend you to skip this version and go straight to brotherhood

If you're going to skip 03, don't do it because it's not identical enough to FMAB. The identical material within is altered from the start and so it leads to a different set of circumstances, etc.

You're missing out on a lot, just like you would with any original anime you'd choose to watch.

So, please. Make the decision based on whether or not you feel like it, not whether or not it's "faithful" to the source material, something which doesn't guarantee much of anything.

There's an argument to be made that you should watch the first part of 2003.
Up until the arc with Rose is done (i forget most of the names)

Brotherhood kinda takes for granted that you would've seen all that before already. If you dont watch that first part of 2003, then characters will show up towards the end of brotherhood that will have you going "who are these people?"

So i dont suggest you watch all of 2003 because it kinda sucks imo, but maybe just watch the first 10 or so episodes

Are you even remotely of aware of what happens in the first ten epsiodes? Episode 3, 4 are FMA03 exclusive. Parts of 5,6 and 7 are anime original content with 8 and 10 being entirely so. Episode 9, the one containing the skipped Yoki story even has an important FMA03 exclusive character in it. A lot of these episodes hold no relevance to the story or themes of FMAB.

Don't splice the series together, ever. There is no argument to be made, just misinformed individuals who parrot this decade-old advice from others similarly misinformed.

Even watching just episode 1 and 2 will misinform you as to the relevance of the Lior arc given father Cornello has a different fate in each.
