Kind of . Because for me I was already spoiled that he would kill himself even before i started watching this series .
I enjoyed the whole anime but particularly ending idk I knew what was going to happen so it was not that impactful . Butt maybe foe someone who saw that show without knowing the ending or even better watched it while it was airing I can see it being outstanding and awesome. I loved the show even with the spoiler. And I saw what I haven't in many animes . So my opinion doesn't matter.😅

It was a really great ending but I was hoping for a happy ending so I was very sad when I finished it, so I was extremely happy when I heard about lelouch of the resurrection, which is where lelouch comes back to life and it has a happy ending where he ends up with cc

I think it absolutely had one of the best endings! I was never spoiled on what the ending would be so it made it even more impactful for me. I couldn’t think of a better way this series would end! I may or may not have bawled like a baby when I watched it 😅😅

Yes. For me atleast. I don‘t know if I went full monkey brain while watching the series, but to me, this ending was pretty unexpected and genius.

most definitely, FMAB also has a near perfect ending but the zero requiem was a 10/10 short arc. amazing closure and call back to lelouch’s quote, “those who kill should be prepared to be killed”.

I've seen even people who didn't enjoy the anime say that the ending is amazing and in my opinion it's one the best ending in all of fiction

Considering how edgy and superficial the whole show is I'd say no. There are tons of other anime that have a better ending

Quite an amazing ending for a mediocre show I'd say. I gave it 9/10 on IMDb. Woulda given 10/10 if the overall show was good.

Cowboy bebop, evangelion, madoka magica, the tatami galaxy, k-on, mawaru penguindrum, ergo proxy, kill la kill, mob psyco, paranoia agent. These are just the very first names to come to my mind. Imho every showbi named has a better ending than code geass.
Peace

At least for everything I’ve seen, yes, this is definitely the best ending. I would say if you ask any anime veteran they would probably agree because seems to be a very popular opinion in the anime community.

Have you seen the movie code geass: lelouch of the resurrection?

definitely not, it was just one big final contrivance and a result of a complete lack of actual story-planning.

when i saw the ending I thought this was literally what went through the minds of the writers:

"So, after all this mess we created, how do you think we can end this shit?"

I don't really undestand what people find special about this ending, it's about as bland and run of the mill as it gets. Is it because the series is so unbelievably bad that by the end of the series when that has become your reference point anything that doesn't make you vomit blood looks like a masterpiece?

Yes , so far from what I have watched. He was similar to Light from Death Note but, Lelouch sacrificed himself to achieve his mission unlike Light.

It totally is. I saw it coming and yet it still shocked me. Lelouch is pure genius. Gave up everything for peace. Now he's a real hero.

As someone who didn’t like the series too much, I thought the ending was done super well and is perhaps the best thing out of the show (aside from that killer op from part 1).

I think the best ending to a show I’ve ever seen was Eureka Seven’s ending. Everything about it was perfect. It can be seen as nearly an opposite to CG’s ending in terms of content but both have similarities too.

Other endings I prefer, that I think were handled better, are Death Note’s ending and Neon Genesis Evangelion’s show and EoE endings... but I’m sure that’s just me lol.

Completely agree with this, I liked the first season but the second season kind of lost me part way through so was a nice surprise how great the ending was. Even though the show itself isn’t in my top 10 the ending definitely stood out and stuck with me.

It’s between this and Death Note for me for best ending. The only 2 animes that left me with closure aside from Assassination Classroom.

It has ONE OF THE BEST ending of all time. I can't say this has the best one (second best perhaps). I feel like Steins;Gate has the best ending of all time.

Yeah, from everything finished I seen. Biggest contender for the title would be One Piece Imo. If Oda keeps the same quality of storytelling till the end in 5 years. It could blow The zero requiem away.

I'd say so, Shows like Death note and Evangelion come to mind tho.

It's really interesting to me how the concept of "If you kill the bad guy you become him" and stuff like that are big moral dilemmas in many shows and movies and usually it ends on not killing the bad guy or just killing him and not thinking abt it too much, Like when I was watching Monster or Psycho-pass, Every time this concept got mentioned, Lelouch popped in my head with his counter concept basically, Suzaku gets better, Lelouch gets better, Euphy's scene gets better, Legit the moment in the first episode where he moved the king first gets better after the ending, Many many themes, Characters or pieces of dialogue become way more important and compelling with just knowing that Lelouch sacrificed himself.
I don't speak English that much, so please cut me some slack

@sabervergarden

I guess (as for me) the ending is overrated I rate it 7/10, I didn't like the last scene where the antagonist of the story said that he became the villain so others can be heroes or others can find peace, literally the worst writing I've ever seen, I think the bad guys should be true to their characters till their last breath to give the story a meaning and make it more epic, even if that would result in a tragic sad ending where the antagonist wins in the end, but that is the last scene as for the final events where every conflicting party are motivated by their greed and interest, I like how each one of them is corrupted and wants to devour the other I think it's more realistic, I rate the whole series 9/10.

I still have a ton of anime to watch before I can make a proper opinion on this, but taking the ending by itself, I don't think it lives up to that title. The entire second season feels pretty rushed, with the ending being no exception. One second, we're doing battle with Nunnally and Schneizel, the next Lelouch is escorting all his prisoners, then he's dead and the ending montage pops up. What saves it though is the concept of the Zero Requiem itself, which is pretty clever and ties up the characters' journeys in a surprisingly satisfying way if you look past a couple plot holes. And the scene itself where the Zero Requiem is put into motion is really well done, so all in all it's a good ending to a story that was really messy. But I can't agree with it being the best of all time.
Are ya winning, diners?
