I remember reading that this had a screening in Japan, and that you can get a DVD in Japan, but I can't seem to find this anywhere outside of Japan. any ideas? |
Hmm I can't help you with the DVD. But, short films are usually acquired directly from the creators. So, if there really are DVDs, you could only acquire them through exhibitions. In case you're interested in watching the English dub, NHK is currently screening it on their website: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/ondemand/video/2065041/ You can also watch Tsukahara Shigeyoshi's interpretation of Osamu Dazai's Joseito through that link. |

You are a gem sir thank you very much!!! I am a big fan of Edogawa Ranpo so I was dying for more, I remember I was gutted when I learned that this was a short movie as I initially thought it was going to be a full length one. It's too bad there's no sub available online right now but for these 2 short movies I can tolerate it dubbed. I wish NHK put out a 1080p version, but oh well can't complain. thanks again! Update: I listen to Chet Baker too... Edit: Also I think this is the website i found that sells the DVD in japan, https://iyasakado.official.ec/items/20171020 Or maybe I am wrong I don't really read Japanese lol I am getting the vibe from you that you are in Japan, please DM me if that's the case haha, If you are nice enough to buy the DVD for me I'll pay for it! |
Haha! Calling me a gem is just too much! LOL! Ah yeah.. Edogawa Ranpo still doesn't get the Aoi Bungaku Series treatment, unlike Dazai or Akutagawa. Too bad.. I, too, just realized today that Ranpo actually made some stuff that are similar to Edgar Allan Poe's works. I thought he was only a detective mystery writer like Conan Doyle. Stories from those writers are currently a niche, dear sir. So, hoping for big production companies and big anime studios to produce them is kind of futile. You need someone like Akira Kurosawa to get a great adaptation of Akutagawa's Rashomon. So, you will need a director as big, reputable and talented as him to convince the big companies that a full feature film based on an Edogawa Ranpo's story will sell. Too bad Satoshi Kon is not with us anymore. LOL! On Chet Baker, it's been a while since I've seen that man of culture meme. Yeah, I have a rather sentimental history in MAL and that song kind of represents my feelings both IRL and on MAL. On the DVDs, sorry to disappoint you.. I'm not in Japan and I don't know Japanese either, just like you. But, hey, congrats! At least you have found the studio's official website and yes, they really are selling those DVDs. Maybe you could contact them directly through their email or social media. They might be willing to ship it to your country. Or, yeah.. you could try to get some help from Japanese users here (there really were a few Japanese users here, not sure about now though) or from foreigners who are currently living in the Tokyo area (since the studio is located in Tokyo, cheaper shipping cost and all). Hmm maybe reach out to them through the forums or something? |
