Pros:
- If you're a fan of zero sum game and the several level of competitiveness then it's definitely worth reading.
- It doesn't really required the reader to be able to play Shogi and know every form of strategies to understand this series.
- Lots of details about the Shogi association, a good world building in other terms.
- The competition revolves more about pro players than casual or amateurs. It's a fierce traditional sports.
- How it differs to high school sports story, it doesn't simply just end when the players win 1 or 2 or a few high stakes matches. One only becomes a true victor by acquiring sequencing victories. So winning a single title isn't the goal. And losing matches also have a more severe penalty than simply just missing out inter high or Koushien for example.
- It's not a wish fulfilment type series so expect a lot of decent characters and a lot of professional mindset to most of the players.

Cons:
- If there are 5 levels of ecchi then this is on stage 1, just a half-assed fan service for the sake of fan services. It's not lewd enough.
- The lolicon misunderstanding jokes were funny at the start but it just kept getting overused.
- No self-insertable character for those readers who like to do that. No Shogi player here on the same level of Lelouche Li Britannia..
- Some players tend to overact

I haven't read beyond volume 11, but I know it's still publishing and on its last arc. Last time I've checked, the translation is up to vol 14, but that was years ago so....
