It seems like any somewhat popular Shonan anime is required to have a generic, forgettable, by the numbers movie.

They're never any good.

Almost all of the Naruto movies were like it except the last two were Kishimoto was involved.

Almost all the One Piece movies except probably Film Z were generic. Even Strong World and Film Gold but at least the animation propped them up.

All the Bleach movies are like it.

The two Hunter X Hunter movies are like it.

The two Fairy Tail movies are like it.

The Toriko movie was like it.

And now this My Hero Academia movie is like it. They all feel like a few episodes of filler pushed together with a slightly bigger budget. Infect if they'd just clued the first 5 episodes together it would have been far better than this movie.

Why? Why are all these movie mediocre at best? Dozens of people worked on this movie and this was the best that they could come up with?

They all just feel the same, they all play out the same way and nothing of any significance happens in them.

Of course now they've gone and announced another movie and of course you already know that it will end up being the same, another generic movie.

Why are there always threads that say "Why do they keep making films I have this opinion on?"

To actually answer your question, the reason they're generally a filler story with a heavy focus on action over story is because it sells, and doesn't necessarily require the watching of previous series.

Also the mediocre bit is just your opinion, many people happen to love/hate this film, so answering why you feel that way isn't something we can do

The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies have an abundance of action as well as interesting stories.

Are you saying that these movies can't have an interesting story? Then why is that? Why can't they have both an interesting story and exciting action at the same time?

The Last Naruto movie did. One Piece Film Z did. Dragon Ball Super Broly did. No surprise then that those movies were far more successful than the standard generic movies.

This movie like many of its kind don't have interesting stories nor is the action really even that good. The TV show had better action than this while also having a story.
