I'm 336 chapters in, and this manga confuses me to no end.

Kiichi is fighting Sonou, and using the bird's eye technique. Kiryuu is surprised that he can even use the technique, but iirc Kiichi used the same technique against Minoru of the wind like 200 chapters earlier.

The manga is full of this stuff, especially stuff surrounding Jet's hearing and the level of Garcia relative to other fighters...

Kiichi's use of the sky eye or "bird's eye" technique was involuntary earlier and he just used it through instinct. By the time he fights Son-O, he can use it at will which is the surprise.

Jet's hearing isn't really that much of an issue. He can only hear 10% of anything if I can recall correctly. But Jet is obsessed with Kiryu so he obviously is always listening out for him, and some deaf people can read lips very well.

All of the other fights Kiichi had were very circumstantial compared to an all out exhibition of techniques from Jet and Garcia. It was also vaguely hinted that Garcia was probably another child of Kiryu.
