Does this anime progress?

I am up to episode 8 in this series and all though i find it really relaxing and sort of enjoyable (1 episode a night kind of anime) , all thats been happening are several 1 story episdoes about the mushi. Which is fine and all but I was wondering if the story develops and we get to see more about the main characters background etc or does it just continue showing us these little stories until the end?

you should enjoy the little detours to the fullest because thats were you'll find the things more important that what you want.

It stays as an episodic series but there are recurring characters and yes, there is a Ginko's past episode. It does mainly focus on different Mushi though.
