Right now, I'm working through A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. I gotta say, pretty damn good so far. (On the second book).

I've just started the first book after i've watched the tv show.

As for Stephen King i read 2 books : first was Salem, a friend recommend it to me when i was looking for vampires stories, it was nice and creepy , i ahd dreams about it maybe because i was reading it before going to bed xD, then i read Misery which i enjoyed a lot more but i'm not sure if i'll try another book of his.

Also, i'm dying to read The Vampire Chronicles but unfortunately i could never get my hands on them. I found some online but they were too damn expensives ><
However i could read 3 books of Anne Rice: Vittorio the vampire, the violin and the 1st book of the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy.

Lotus97: To tell you the truth, it was sometimes a bit boring. And I had some problems with the language, because the author used a lot of old-fashioned expressions and a pathetic language, so it wasn't easy to read for someone who isn't a native English speaker. And the long introduction about the Custom House was superfluous in my opinion. But overall it wasn't a bad novel, but it could have been more adventurous.

I rarely liked the books I had to read for school. I don't know what possessed me to become an English major. I did like Shakespeare though it could be a bit boring and slow sometimes.

Lotus97: I have read a lot of Shakespeare dramas, but only in Hungarian and German. I think his language could be quite different from the English of the present, so I prefer reading him in my mother tongues. And I have made a big mistake recently. I bought Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in English without having a look in it in the shop.
When I opened at home the book, I saw a weird text with a quite different language (Chaucer wrote in the 14. century), and the explanations to the text were longer than the text itself. I don't know if I will begin this book or not. When I first saw the text I thought:"What the heck is that?"

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this or not, but I am on a site called GoodReads, which is kinda like MAL but for books. It's nice to have that site to get recommendations for or to see what everyone else thought of a book, especially if I'm not sure if I want to spend the time reading it.

My favorite author in the whole wide world is Michael Moorcock. I think that if they ever did an adaptation of his Elric saga, it would have to be an anime series, though.

Right now, I'm reading Snake Agent by Liz Williams. At first I wasn't sure if I'd like the book since it's a mystery and mystery isn't usually my cup of tea, but the occult and sci-fi elements of it make it really interesting. I picked it up yesterday at the library and I'm nearly finished already.

I'm reading "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde, and I'm reading it in English thanks to my good friend Leon-kun that ordered it for me as a gift from the UK. :DD
It has a beautiful hardcover that is black with white feathers and it feels like it's embroidered or sth.
Thanks!!! Reading it in English is pure delight! ^.^

If you're talking about the movie with Ben Barnes and Colin Firth, i loved it !! There were some differences with the book of course but it didn't bother me at all (i don't really mind when movies don't follow the books anyway). It was a really nice movie, loved the ambiance and the actors. I'm sure i'll be re-watching it sometimes.

I have seen the movie where "Prince Kaspian of Narnia" is playing Dorian. I watched it with my friend and after the movie the friend said : You are perverted.

What I just bought the DVD because it was on sale ( ~5€) and it had a nice cover. xD

Yes, that's the one I want to watch. I love the actors and I believe they will have amazing chemistry with each other. So when I finish reading the book, I'll be watching this. I'm glad you say you liked it, because here in Greece, for some mysterious reason, it never was shown as far as I remember, plus I know a lot of people who were indifferent to it. But the book is not for everyone..I started reading it some years ago, and I was bored. Now I read it again from the prototype and I'm so fascinated by it, that it can easily place high in my Top favorite books list.

@Lumi
haha I dunno why that friend of yours told you that, but for me that is also a good sign. xDDD (that's how my friends call me anyway for watching yaoi and stuff like Kuroshitsuji! :P)
Oh I wish DVDs where that cheap here too.. :( In the best case they are around 10E.. but usually they are around 20E.. meh :/

Books O.o wee, I begin to like MAL :D

I love reading books and therefore I own a lot (I think) My collection counts around 600 of those heavy bastards. (I say that because I just moved...and will be again in some months :D)

My favorite genres are historical Books, Fantasy and Thriller on the one Hand, classical literature, philosophy and poetry on the other. I love Oscar Wilde, and Dorian is just awesome! JusticeUndone, do not expect too much from the movie, thats just a hint. I liked it though, I own it as well. But perhaps you should leave some time between the book and the movie.

Very fascinating to me are the books of Francois Lelord, with the Hector series. I simply adore these books. They are clever, psychological, philosophical but still entertaining and fun to read.

For classical literature...there is no other god than Goethe in this world of books :D
I know Faust...yeah I really know it and I love it! Same for most of his poems and the Werther.

When it comes to Fantasy I like Hohlbein and Martin Scott just to name two. I used to read "Das schwarze Auge", a series of many books of role playing novels. I owned them all...74 + some special ones...and now they are gone...:( I had to sell them, because I didn't want them to become worthless during the next time I move.

For Thriller I very much like everything of Dan Brown. He just has an awesome style.
If anyone knows Caldwell/Thomason: The last secret (translated it directly from german...) that was really awesome! It was so great I had to buy the book it was mainly about: The Hypnerotomachia Poliphili. Therefore there is no translation to german...I decided to do one...that project is still in progress...since three years...:D I just don't have the time...(besides...its really hard to translate xD)

@GregRocks

The divine Comedy I own as well...two times. One really old one to look at...and one newer for reading :p I started reading it just some time ago, we can share feelings about it, when we are ready ;)

I just finished reading Snuff by Terry Pratchett. I was actually kind of disappointed by this one. I like the Sam Vimes character, but he really does best when he's surrounded by the rest of the Watch. I mean, Thud was good, but Thud also had the other Watch characters in more active supporting roles.

I also finished the first of The Last Apprentice books. They're nice light creepy reading.

RIP to Russell Hoban, one of the greatest sci-fi authors of the 20th century. if you ever have the chance to read Riddley Walker, his masterpiece, please do. it is not easy to take on or find for that matter, but very rewarding. you fans of Dune in the club would appreciate i think. completely different setting, plot, everything, but you would appreciate the denseness of the story, the force of the vision, and the allegorical nature of it. if you enjoy apocalyptic stoires (which i very much do) this one is second to none

Reading Old Man's War by John Scalzi. It is a really quick read so far. It moves along quickly and doesn't get bogged down in too much description.

Also re-reading The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett. I downloaded it to my e-reader because my copy was pretty beaten up and I got a gift-card for Amazon.

I just couldn't get into The Dark Elf trilogy. The first one was good, but the subsequent books basically turned Drizzt into a Mary-Sue type character. One Dark Elf shouldn't be able to take down a monster that normally takes three or four. Said Single Dark Elf shouldn't come out of the encounter unscathed, either, I don't care how many 20's he rolled. Just sayin'....

I much preferred Dragonlance (even if the group's leader is absolute weaksauce). The characters were more believable.
