captain tsabasa is that old school first so rated highly? n9t seen it so just asking. its so normal to people to dislike the most adverted if blue lock came out quietly and not such a fan base no one would be saying hate as much. its the same with music and films. Try Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray! It’s the most recent sports anime I really enjoyed — and it’s the top-rated show of Spring 2025 (besides the ONAs). Give it a 3 Ep shot and you will like it.

mentioned kabaddi earlier. really enjoyed that one. rate it like the sumo one. but enjoyed it more cos I used to watch kabaddi on eurosports at 4 in the morning thinking this game is insane

yeah ao ashi and all the little details is so impressive. yeah 4th of Nov cant wait for fm26. but yeah this ea fc is best I have played in so many years. I stopped playing ea fc by December last year was so annoying

sk8 is brilliant but dont see it as a sports anime. like air gear. but maybe cos its some good visually and soundtrack slaps. but its more sport then its not i guess

I think the fact it gets absolutely absurd later makes it better for me. It's so goofy, it feels ironic. In no way, is golf that serious lol. Plus the vibes are really chill in the show. I can totally see why people wouldn't have it top 5 but it's defo in there for me atm.

hinomaru sumo is very good. ao ashi amazing...kabaddi is very good and done really well. all out is rugby i enjoyed. depends if you like rugby really. but the best are 52 episodes plus but they are a team sports anime.

agree season 2 did but felt season 1 was unique for a unique concept. character development was way better in season 2.but yeah try any of them sport anime. all short and you should enjoy

Anime + Manga

3. Ping Pong (Anime)
4. Kuroko (Anime)
5. Haikyuu (Anime)

I'm extending sports to martial arts which is why Kenichi is on the list, it's still very much in the realm of fantasy but the core of the show is still about all different types of martial arts, other more traditional sports animes are also super exaggerated so I figured this shouldn't be an issue here

Ao Ashi though, I believe its the ultimate football animanga, it blends realism and fantasy in a good way to where what's on screen isn't impossible or ridiculous but it's still anime enough to get hyped over, as well as how accurately it represents the path to becoming a football pro. Some characters also get some neat development as you learn more about their goals and ideals, this is something I think is missing in Blue Lock as a lot of the characters just blend in together for me, as well as how exaggerated it gets which is why I prefer Ao Ashi to it

I find Blue Lock to be like fast food, It narratively is stupid (just like how fast food is unhealthy) but you just are supposed to enjoy how hype and ridiculous with no regards to plot lol
