@Ravex1 @riqmoran my gripe with mappa's animation is really just the heavy amount of hatching they used around the eyes, as it never wasn't there and subtracted from being able to see expressions clearly, which sadly was another arena they missed the mark on as characters tended to look disinterested or apathetic. otherwise i think mappa's aesthetic was very appropriate for the final season. wit is nostalgic and fit the atmosphere of the story before the reveal beyond the walls, as it was (for attack on titan standards) more hopeful and straightforward - humanity vs titans. season four becomes much darker in nature, as it's now humanity vs humanity.

although i know it's vital to the story and in retrospect very well done, i voted marley arc simply because it was jarring to be introduced to a new corral of characters, especially coming off the high of season three's conclusion. we also finally have eren free from being continuously kidnapped, so i was looking forward to seeing the story go in that direction. every episode i hoped to be brought back to our central characters, in at least some capacity, but it took six full episodes (if i'm not mistaken) to see them again. i was also a little bummed about the time skip because i'm always bummed about a time skip. i want to see the development of the characters in real time, and even though they gave us peeks into the moments between the two time frames, i craved more. overall, every arc had its place and marley's is no exception, but i couldn't help but feel the way i felt, as one does.

personally i loved mappas art style, it's not supposed to be all glossy and smooth, it really gave off the feeling of despair that you're supposed to feel with the final season.
