My opinion was lowered significantly. Too many episodes had over 15 minutes of action without any depth, and the character work was minimal. I swear, the only long-term consequence this show knows how to do is killing people off, which is just lame. It wasn’t all bad, but it’s very much just a battle shounen, nothing more and nothing special. 5/10 at most, probably dropping. Even if it was great though, you’re actually insane if you think this should be top 10 on MAL, across all anime ever. Insane, or incredibly new to anime. Absolutely not.

it is a basic shonen formula

build up in less important arc

pay off in a big arc with lot of fights, and as shibhuya was a pay off arc i don't see any problem

I mean if you enjoy normie shonens like demon slayer and mha ( which I do ) then you will love this season, and will agree on it being in top 10 animes on mal especially if every new overhyped slice of life reaches no.1 like oshi no ko and frieren

Oh I’m a huge MHA fan, and I like Demon Slayer decently too. JJK is far less thought out than either of those. It’s fight, fight, fight, no breaks, no breathing room, heck there’s hardly any dialogue within the fights to give them something! Spend time on your characters and worldbuilding half tye amount MHA does! Build emotional moments and be well-structured enough to be short the way DS does! SOMETHING! Even judged as a basic, generic shounen, JJK has been failing. And speaking of, no normie shounen should be top 10, that’s ridiculous—first off, respect the classics, and secondly, dramas like Oshi or Frieren are way better written.

JJK is a very frustrating show to watch. The production is top-notch (though it's never worth the mistreatment of the staff that MAPPA is so guilty of), but the actual story is lacking. The reason I say frustrating is because Gege is clearly capable of good writing, there are bits and pieces of it strewn about the clutter of mediocrity. He can breathe life into some characters in a way that feels effortless and natural, but then he drops the ball when it comes to trying to develop or add depth to others. Much of this season was contrived action for action's sake, and that led to a lot of stretched-out and weightless moments. Jujutsu Kaisen is a series without an identity; I don't get the sense it knows what it's trying to be and I can feel the story fight itself. The fact that the Shibuya Incident was the hyped-up arc it was astounds me. It had good beats to it, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't say that was a majority of it.

It was an amazing adaptation of the source material. The staff elevated it so much with the bonker animation and visuals. Loved the Gojo vs Toji, Choso vs Yuji and Sukuna vs Jogo, Sukuna vs Mahoraga and Yuji vs Mahito fights so much. Nanami and Nobara's death hit much harder in the anime, thanks to the incredible voice acting and the emotional ost played during that time. Overall pacing was also good throughout. Hidden Inventory was much more consistent than Shibuya but Shibuya was still peak with it's respective highs and my personal favourite.

I'm basing my opinion purely based on the anime minus the movie. I do not know if consuming the said film or the manga will change my impression.

Action for the sake of action, regardless of production value, is not good. For most of the 2nd season, I'm staring at my monitor constantly asking who and why. There's a lot happening visually, but after 20+ episodes I felt very little plot progression. Finally, using a narrator to explain every details about each ability is grating and absolutely unnecessary. In the end, I just stopped caring.

At least I can safely say I enjoyed the prologue.

People here talk about problems with Mappa, as if that is the only issue with JJJK S2. To be brutally honest, Hidden inventory Arc was great and Shibuya Arc was shit. Manga readers f***ed us over again, just like they overhyped ds and sxf. This season doesn't deserve the score it currently has. Probably 7-7.5 is where I would put it. If this the best jjk has to offer than in worried about jjk's future. I initially thought JJK was much better written than DS, but now I think both are on the same level i.e., trash shounen and the fanbase has the gall to say that it is better than HxH.
@SiGow very well put.
This season felt very uneven. It hasn't connected with me.

Okay for me.
the characters mostly are flat and bland.
the plot/story is mid. and the progress is very poor
the theories of curse techniques explained in poor way. hard for me to understand
megumi, nobara who as MC didn't develop such a waste

I think the best part of this season probably itadori vs choso

not fans of s1, s2. but i love the movie and gojo

Overall really liked it, but in the back of my mind there's still a lot of mixed feelings. I'll have to re-watch it some time.

Honestly, I found it a bit disappointing. I loved the first season but this one felt like a chore. Yeah, some fight scenes are good but most of them felt like filler. Also the narrator having to explain what is happening felt jarring, and it always feels too convenient to say "oh but this character had a special technique that is super rare and comes out of nowhere" or "this character was able to perform this attack again (when they shouldn't) just because". Like, I wouldn't mind it once or twice, but I feel the season overuses it and it feels kinda cheap.

Also, it feels like there are too many characters in the Shibuya arc. Most of them are criminally underused and it feels like there is zero to none character development.

Idk, I hoped more from this season.

Season 2 is probably one of the best anime I've ever watched. So many feelings through this roller coaster of a show. I never expected a fairly typical shounen like that of season 1 to step it up as much as it did. The animation, the lighting, the story, the drama. It is rare that I get this excited to watch an anime. genuine movie quality stuff.

I initially thought the season would peak during the five first episodes, the prequel stuff. It was much more character driven than Jujutsu Kaisen normally is and the tone was less jokey and goofy. Certain scenes where a bit like Monogatari, which instantly made those episodes a 10/10. I love when a show lets you infer and make your own conclusions from the story instead of just telling you the conclusions, like with Gojo's partner's corruption from who he was in that arc to the person he is in the show proper. That whole mini arc felt like it was originally meant to be a separate movie and I thought there is no way the rest of this trite shounen would top that. Also, while I'm not gay or sexually attracted to Gojo, he is seriously pretty. Like how you can admire a view for its aesthetics.

The fact that characters are actually dying is a breath of fresh air. Normally in an arc like this characters are "pushed to their limit" but always end up just fine (like the basement arc in MHA). That the show is willing to kill off characters and subsequently change makes the story much more impactful.

Bro wtf are you on lmao? Responding to me in all these threads. Let me just get everything clear to you right here.

youre really a fraud if you think eps 17 was bad its literally best animation in jjk,and did you blind?

Firstly, learn you grammar before talking to me. "Did you blind?" You can't even fucking write this sentence properly and you are saying Im blind.

Also, pls don't call me a fraud, as I probably has rewatched JJK S2 FAR more times than you. I have rewatched ep 17 alone 10, or even 20 times already. I have also rewatched all major episodes this season numerous times. I tried to change my own opinion about ep 17 but in the end its still a badly directed episode.

Ep 17 has bad directing, but I never said it has bad animation. Not only you can't write, you also can't read. The train fight in EP 17 had no context whatsoever, and its filled with confusing scenes like Mahoraga's size changes (which weren't in the manga). When Mahoraga threw the train, the train's dimension and size is completely wrong relative to the building. Even when Mahoraga held the train, the train is still illustrated wrong. I'm not talking about the artstyle, but rather the decision to direct mahoraga to do this is very bad.

The airplane scene also had 0 context. The viewers had no idea how or why an airplane appeared out of nowhere. They also don't understand HOW Mahoraga is on the airplane IN THE FIRST PLACE! Mappa also didn't explain why things are flowing in the sky, like the bricks and car. Mahoraga does NOT have this ability in the manga.

At the end of Sukuna's domain, Mahoraga was supposed to be on the ground after suffering heavy slashes, before getting finished off with Fuga (Just like in the manga). However, the anime changed that completely and it made no sense why Mahoraga can be finished off by Fuga if he was still perfectly fine and standing. Ep 17 has bad directing & weak artstyle, but the animation is good. I will give it that.

If you think Ep 17 has GOOD directing, how about you PROVE it to me using FACTS?Change my mind by explain to me the points I made above.

ep 8 was not that bad

It seems like you are the blind one here. How many times have you rewatched ep 8? Once? I suggest you go back and rewatch the grasshopper fight in ep 8 before coming back and talk to me. If you think ep 8 is actually decent, you gotta check your eyes because I don't even need to argue with you on this.

eps 14 its literally the worst eps in jjk but you dont think that eps was bad?

No, I do think ep 14 is bad. It has one of the worst animations along with ep 8. I said this in another thread but you didn't see it. Doesn't matter, now that you know what I think.

Also dude, you need to STOP being so triggered by people's opinions or facts. You are not the only one who loves JJK and not everybody who comments about JJK are HATERS. You just can't seem to get this fact to your head and acting like a kind by going crazy responding to me and others. You need to chill.
