| "It looks like we'll have to wait until Joshua gets home." |
| "You and me both." Lucas agreed. He looked at Adam. "Feeling any better?" "A-a little." Adam replied. By now his eyes had returned to normal. |
| "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come back here." Adam said quietly. |
| "She's right, no point beating yourself up over it now." Said Lucas. |
| "I dunno." |
| Lucas looked at the fire. "How can you do that?" |
| "I can't do anything special except burn in sunlight." "I can't do anything except...oh no wait; nothing, sorry." Said Adam. |
| "Yeah, well aren't demons evil or something?" Said Adam. "What could I ever do besides being terrifying?" |
| "But demons are different from vampires. Demons are like 'spawn of hell' and everything." |
| "How much of that is up to decision? You could try to be the nicest vampire in the world, but you still have to drink blood. There are some things that are out of your control." Lucas groaned. "God, you sound even more emo than me." |
| Adam sighed. "I wish this had never happened." |
| "You know, some people are completely in love with the idea of being something other than human...how mislead they are." "Cut it out please?" Said Lucas. "You're gonna make me cry, jesus." |
| "You can't possibly have been a vampire long enough to forget what being human feels like." Said Lucas disbelievingly. |
| "Well, that's unlucky." Said Lucas. "After two and a half years I still remember exactly what it's like to be human. When food tasted like something and I could go out on a date without having to hear my girlfriend's heartbeat." |
| "Yeah," Lucas said, "well, sometimes I wish I could go back, but I don't know if I'd ever be able to put everything behind me and live normally again. Everything I've done...it just feels like I can't get rid of my excuse, even though its not really a good enough excuse anyway. But, if I was human again, I don't think I could live with myself..." "Are you sure you said I sounded more emo than you?" Asked Adam. |
| "Humans have no reason to be brutal to each other." Said Lucas. "I'd feel even worse about myself." |
| "Well now that we've had an ultra deep chat and everything, how about we find something else to do?" Said Adam. |
| "So then, any ideas?" Asked Lucas. "Not really." |
| "Sorry." |
| Just then, the front door opened. "Oh, great." Lucas whispered. |
| "So, how are we going to do this then?" Asked Adam quietly. |
| "Wait a minute." Said Lucas. "Can you hear that? There are two people." "So," said Joshua from in the lounge. "I've done everything you've asked of me." "Indeed you have." Said another voice, male and distinctly British. |
| "I've put the barrier up, so the only thing left to do is to wait until he comes back." Said Joshua. "No need." Said the stranger. "He's already here." "What?" Adam wondered. "How could he know that?'' |
| "He is?" Asked Joshua. As if in response, the hallway door slammed open and the three came face to face with Joshua and the stranger, who was a tall, unshaven man who had a cigarette hanging limply in his mouth. Also, as Adam immediately noticed, his fingernails were completely black. "Hello you three," he said, smiling. "My name is Michael." |
| "Michael; ironic, don't you think?" Said Lucas. Michael laughed slightly. "I suppose, yes." |
